Publisher's summary

The price of true love is betrayal, suspicion, and murder in a thriller of twisting suspense by the Amazon Charts best-selling author of The Best Friend.

James and Jessica Sommers are celebrating their first blissful year together, an unexpected second chance at true love. Unfortunately, their newfound shot at happiness is not without collateral damage.

There’s Jessica’s ex-husband. He pretends for all the world that he’s resilient and strong. If only for the sake of their teenage son, profoundly vulnerable in his own way. James’ ex has taken a different road. Bitter, vengeful, and threatening, she wants only the worst for the happy couple. And then there’s the couple themselves: Are they truly as in love as they seem?

When James enters into an extraordinarily profitable if shady transaction with a beautiful art dealer, Jessica and James’ seemingly perfect marriage takes a dark and tragic turn.

Amid suspicions, tested loyalties, revenge, and guilt, no one escapes unscathed from sins committed in the name of love.

Holds your attention throughout

Sheesh, what a real who dunnit. This book captures your attention from the very beginning and is laced with several twists and turns all the way up to the end. This is definitely one of those books that will have you saying "just one more page".

solid story

The story was somewhat a typical, however I did enjoy it. It had several twists and turns that kept it interesting along the way. I also enjoyed being educated on the law as well as some medical education.

Anticlimactic

NO SPOILERS!
I was looking forward to another Adam Mitzner book but this one was quite dull and normally I enjoy his legal thrillers. The characters were underdeveloped and I didn’t really develop any feelings for them. This made the outcome anticlimactic for me. The narrator was decent.

Overall there wasn’t enough thrills. I would say 95% drama and 5% courtroom scenes in this one.

Predictable ending

For the length of this book, I was hoping for a better ending. It started great, and even after the climax I expected it to be a twisted road to the end. But it was predictable and the ending, meh.

Good, but not great

I've become an Adam Mitzner fan and I've collected all of his books The twists and turns in each story always have me coming back for me. This story was very good, but it was a little predictable. A good novel, but not Mitzner's best story. A Matter of WIll is probably the best novel I've read this decade. There were a couple of places the story slowed and I was expecting another twist, but it was not like other Mitzner books. Very good, but not great.

Great narration. Kept me intrigued

Great narration. Characters were nicely developed but story come to a fast conclusion. Had an opportunity to have more depth and intrigue. Somewhat predictable but did keep me listening to the end.

Definitely a good bookclub discussion book!

Definitely a good bookclub discussion book! At some point in the storyline it was sorta obvious on who done it without malicious intent. But think the ending would be waaaay different if the reality of how the news + social media would interpret the situation and outcome. Kinda wish there was a bit more content with the Kindle ending "Jessica Thought" at the graduation or maybe it would have been interesting if that narrative was from Owen.

Not Adam’s best but still good

How I wish he had developed the ending!! Otherwise it was a good read, entertaining and kept you guessing. I loved how he developed the mystery of how the police discovered who it was, but the ending just didn’t do it for me. Sigh!

My impression alone

I think I could have understood, enjoyed and given this story a much better rating with a different narrator. He was hard to follow, had a harsh voice and no expression in his voice.

Pretty good book. Definitely worth a listen

So..this book definitely held my attention. And I could listen to Jonathan Davis read ANYTHING. But I definitely didn’t like the ending. I figured out who the killer was sooner than I would have liked but it was still a pretty good “whodunit”. I will certainly listen to another book by this author, especially if Jonathan Davis is narrating.
