Publisher's summary

"Here's what happens when you mess with me!"

Originally released in 2011, New York Times best-selling author Steve Jackson has revised and updated this classic true crime about one of the most monstrous serial killers in American history.

William Neal, who called himself "Wild Bill Cody," was seductive and skillful at separating love-struck women from their money, and ultimately, their lives. Apprehended by police, Neal, who proclaimed himself “better than Ted Bundy,” pleaded guilty to three murders then insisted on representing himself at his death penalty trial. But the psychopathic killer found himself up against the incredible courage of his one surviving victim.

Good book

Overall a good book. The narration was good, the story was pretty good. It could have been a little more detailed but I knew going in it was only a 6 1/2 hour book.

Phenomenal research, remarkable story telling

Jackson takes an in-depth look at the brutal murders committed by serial killer William "Cody" Neal, who received the death penalty in Colorado, but had his sentence commuted to life in prison. Neal's research is exceptional, exposing how Neal would prey on vulnerable women, often times flaunting their stolen money at strip clubs and bars. "Love Me to Death" is a chilling listen, and Kevin Pierce provides extraordinary narration. If you have a morbid fascination with serial killers, or simply enjoy true crimes stories, this work is a well-written, absorbing audio book. My heart breaks for the victims of these senseless killings. This was my first Steve Jackson book, and I wholeheartedly enjoyed it.

Can’t beat True Crime and Kevin Pearce narrative

Wild Bill Cody is a true manipulator and psychopath. What’s of interest is how he managed to lure smart successful women into his evil plans. Listening to Kevin Pearce tell the story paints an icy chill of how evil can be compartmentalized into a person that attracts these women. Another well performed narrative of true crime by the best.

Evil Personified

Evil - pure evil. William Lee "Cody" Neal was one very sadistic killer - one who used women to get what he wanted - and then killed them.
While he seemed to start killing out of nowhere, there is a thought that he may have been killing long before he was caught - there is just no proof.

Cody Neal used his looks, and the money that he was scamming out of women to lure other women to him. When pressed to pay back his loans, he would turn to murder, keeping a sort of mortuary in his home - which would have horrified anyone that saw it.

This case, was interesting in many ways, as Cody Neal seemed to be very bright. But instead of using his brains for good, he turned to crime instead.
Great read! I enjoyed this one!

Love Me to Death

I absolutely love any book narrated by Kevin Pierce. He has a wonderful way of getting these pages to my ears. As for the author he did a great job too. I feel terrible for the families of the victims. As for “Cody” he sounded like a complete POS OKAY….. ignorance is bliss.

Well written and well read

Can’t imagine what kind of spiel Cody had that would convince so many good intelligent women that he was Prince Charming, when he was such an ugly little gargoyle inside and out. Ghastly excuse for a human being. Kevin Pierce does a stellar job as always.

Great narration, story tell just so so.

Much as I like reading true crime, this is NOT Ann Rule or Gregg Olsen (my favorite true crime authors).
I never really got into the characters. Even the victims of the crimes were rather one dimensional. The perpetrator was evil, no surprise there. I usually love hearing about the investigation and trial but since he confessed and was his own attorney, that was also flat. Fortunately it was a short audiobook but I still feel it was a waste of money.
