Publisher's summary

Her dad's job is with the dead...and he's bringing his work home with him.

Once again, 17-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad's career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she's a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems, so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father's alcoholism, she's got enough problems of her own.

But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley's door. The young woman's death wasn't the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer's next victim, Riley knows she'll have to help Hayden move on, too, but what if she can't let him go?

Pretty good

The story line was pretty good, but I really hated the narrator. She made the main character seem like she was a bitchy punk. It was her tone and inflections.

A YA but Good!

I had been so disgusted because I could not find a good book. Reviewers often like a book, 5 star it, and I’ll get it only to be disappointed. Took a chance on this one and although certainly not an adult book, it was pretty darn good!

The Morticians Daughter is about a teenager who discovers she can see dead people. When she and her father relocate to another town for her fathers new job, she. Gets a visit from a murder victim. Who begs for help in catching her killer. Much more than just that it’s a good story with lots of twists and turns and relationship.

The narrator was very good. I recomend this for YA and adults who want a good lighthearted mystery.

Great story, but the ending…

I really like the characters and the story, but what an abrupt ending. I get that it is a series and you need a cliffhanger, but i felt like it she just stopped writing or that it was going to be one book and she decided to break it into two late in the game.
Still, it was engaging and i will have to keep reading it because i need to know what happens next.

So Good!

This is such a good book and I can't wait to start the next in the series. Riley is a strong young woman who tries so hard to juggle her special abilities, school, and home life. The characters she meets and befriends along the way like Kelsey, Hayden and Jacob will have your heart melting along with hers. This story has a great balance of mystery, drama and romance that kept me hooked from the beginning until the end.

Great story!

It started slowly, but I'm glad I stuck it out. It took some time to love the narrator, but she grows on you. Overall I loved it!

Wow! Great book! Loved the characters and how the storyline progressed. Darn that cliffhanger though!

Interesting and generally cute

This book is cute. I don't love the narrator. She often has very odd inflections and pronunciations to words, which I don't love. I can already guess where the plot's going. It is generally very predictable, pandoring to the least common denominators, I guess, so the reader is led to already obvious conclusions a little too much. The writing is excellent, as I'd expect from C.C. Hunter. I wish the books were a lot longer. 7 hrs is super short for an older young adult novel (In my opinion).

Not bad!

I enjoyed C.C. hunters Shadow Falls series so I was happy to see another series from this author. This wasn't too bad. I liked the characters and the storyline. It was ok.
