Publisher's summary

“Twisty, dark, and packs a punch. . . . Gripping and genuinely nail-biting.” — Sarah Pearse, New York Times bestselling author of The Sanatorium

In this pulse-pounding thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of The Nanny, a group of women travel to the most remote place in England for a weekend escape, only to discover a startling note that one of their husbands will be killed before they return home. Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley.

Three couples

Two bodies

One secret

Dark Fell Barn is a “perfectly isolated” retreat, or so says its website when Jayne books a reservation for her friends. A quiet place, far removed from the rest of the world, is exactly what they need.

The women arrive for a girls’ night ahead of their husbands. There’s ex-Army Jayne, hardened and serious, but also damaged. Ruth, the driven doctor and new mother who is battling demons of her own. Young Emily, just wed and insecure, the newest addition of this tight-knit band. Missing this year is Edie, who was the glue holding them together, until her husband died suddenly.

But what they hoped would be a relaxing break soon turns to horror. Upon arrival at Dark Fell Barn, the women find a devastating note claiming one of their husbands will be murdered. There are no phones, no cell service to check on their men. Friendships fracture as the situation spins wildly out of control. Betrayal can come in many forms.

This group has kept each other’s secrets for far too long.

"Fast-paced and incredibly compelling . . . this book will not let you put it down." — Shari Lapena, New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door

Lots of twists and turns

The storyline keeps you in suspense till the end to who the real villain is. Very well done with lots of twists and turns, and the shocking realization who the real villain is.

Recommend reading it over listening to it.

Great twists and turns but some of them made me want to go back in the book to see if I really missed the clues and that was very difficult! There are very few chapter separations so it wasn't easy to find the parts I wanted to 're-read', this would have been much easier to do with a book. Great story and great performance though.

Great Story

This is a good twisty story that doesn't drop its twists all at once. The narration is good but requires the listener to pay close attention because there are no pauses between narrators.

Good story - poor narration

The story was mysterious & held my interest but the narrator was hard to follow. I often had to re-read some because she often confused when changing characters.

A lost credit

Never again will I waste a credit on a pre order. This book was awful. I couldn't keep up with who was who or who was married to who.

Captivating story, bad narration

I really enjoyed the story. It kept me interested from start to finish and there were so many unexpected twists until the very end. The narrator was WAY too fast though, especially in the first few hours of the book and it made the story hard to follow sometimes.

Narrator reads like a run-on sentence

It’s difficult to tell when characters switch due to narrators uniform delivery.
But I do think the story was creative.

Great sorry, terrible narration

I almost gave up on this book multiple times because of the narrator, but I’m not a quitter. I’m glad I stuck it out because the plot made an interesting turn and I ended up enjoying the story.
Don’t waste an audible credit. Get the paper version.

Who did it?

An overall good mystery. It kind of drags on, but has some unexpected twists and turns. All of the narrator’s are unreliable so you won’t know who to believe.

So complex , interesting and scary!

I absolutely loved this book - and the narration. I did need to slow it down a bit, but it was just so good. Riveting. On to read everything else written by this author!!
