Publisher's summary

Nic Haydock, “Nac” to his friends, because, as they said, saying he had a knack for fixing and improving mechanical devices was the understatement of all time. After spending 10 years on Titan where he went through rehab and attended college, he was now returning home to Conclave Station. A freak meteor storm had virtually destroyed the rock-tug his family called home, killing his parents and taking his arm and leg. Reuniting with his lifelong friends - Mal, a computer genius, and Jazz, a natural-born pilot, he started a mining and shipping business. However, while repairing their rock-tug, they stumbled upon a way to control artificial gravity, creating a gravitational force field.

The massive and powerful Corporation found out about the new tech and realized it will change the balance of power, something its managers can’t allow to happen. Everyone wants this new tech and are willing to do anything to get it. When his friends are almost killed, Nic begins to take it personally and starts using their tactics against them. It soon becomes a no-holds-barred shooting war that spans the Solar System.

I loved the multi voice narration

I’ve enjoyed these first two books, anxiously looking forward to the third installment. I hope a large notice goes out when that comes out.

Surprisingly good and consistently exciting

Narrator was good, kept me entertained pretty much the entire way through, and the r&d was interesting.

Though it feels like an old man who just came down from his hermit life wrote this book.

There are a bunch of references that feel dated. The way everyone talks is kind of weird, and I rolled my eyes at all the women dialogue. Either the stereotypical grandma for even more stereotypical shopping girl. Honestly pretty cringe.

That's not to say that the women are helpless exactly, they do have their own jobs that they are good at, but it feels like all the women are just background ornaments. They talk and move just to be noticed, rather than having any real impact on the story.

The parts that I like the most are their R&D. I've always enjoyed smart MC's that use their brains to win. Or in this case, out-tech their enemies.

Though I find it a little farfetched that no one has even bothered looking into that catching/repelling mechanic before.

Even I, with no engineering background can think of a few different things. Stupid people don't survive in space, so the fact that so many engineers ran into this issue and never looked into it is kind of hard to believe.

Always win protagonist

I like the book and the narration is top notch. The story isn’t overplayed but nothing terribly original. What I don’t like is the protagonist always comes out WAY on top, WAY overly lucky. It reminds me of the Hunter Legacy series. Well written except this big flaw. Despite this I will be continuing with the series.

Very worth

I will always loves a good sci-fi book, and I like that this book feels like it's focused on those who are advance technology. Main character makes me think of Benjamin Franklin in the sense that somethings are obvious but you need to be in the right mindset to get puzzle out what is possible while others just ignore things labelled normal, and the results can vary.
