Publisher's summary

It would make a great bard’s song: The orphan son of a mage, a battlefield scavenger saves a knight’s life, is elevated to be his squire, and becomes a dragon’s envoy. But this is no bard’s song.

All of this was because of the dragon stone necklace I scavenged from that dead mage. I knew it was magic when I saw it. Well, it was and it wasn’t. Dragon stone, they call it, but what it actually is, is a dragon’s egg. When I touched it, I felt the need to put it around my neck for safekeeping. When I did, the necklace embedded itself inside my skin, making me the new dragon’s envoy. It has since been my duty to protect the egg until she’s ready to hatch. How do I know the egg is a she? Easy, she talks to me and is helping me to bring out my natural magic talents.

Sometimes I’d rather it was a bard’s song, as it can be tiring. Although I must admit, having a dragon inside you comes in handy when people are trying to kill you.

What? Another cookiecutter mage book?

It's a good thing that I Love cookies!
James Haddock and friends have done it again with a great mage book with only one problem, it ends too soon. It does lend itself to a series though.
Narrator Daniel Wisniewski hits another homerun with his narration, and the addition of Elizabeth Plant's voice for the lady parts is superb.
Go get your own copy, then you too will be a James Haddock fan And a lover of cookies

Not Adults but Great Youth Read!

A good read for young adults not so much for already done that adults.
Didn’t like the ending, feel like the writer just quit.
Wish a bit more creative fact factor into it.
Good listen otherwise!
Thanks!

A little predictable

It was a little predictable in the story, I have read a lot better. I would say the same for the performance. I hav listened to books where I searched the performers to listen to them even if I didn’t know the author. This one not so much.

Young Adult Rubbish

First, everyone but the hero is an idiot… Second, literally overnight, the hero goes from child orphan to the strongest mage in the empire. He doesn’t age, just collects a bunch of magical crap from a battlefield and without effort he’s the guy everyone (from the king to the lowest soldier) comes to for help….

Great for the whole family!

My daughter and I love to find books that we can listen to together. That can be difficult sometimes, considering the age difference. this book was an awesome find, and we have enjoyed listening to every minute of it.

Wonderful wonderful stories

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of John Haddock’s books that I have read about seven at this point. They are deep wonderful stories that are engaging and the flower on top is the narration by Daniel Wisniewski and Elizabeth Plant an absolute treasure to listen to, I only wish that John would write the sequels to these books as soon as possible as I look forward to reading them all

James Haddock does not disappoint!

His books have great character development, easy listening, and I can put it on in the car with my kids and we both enjoy it.

Exceptional!

I'm afraid to start book 2. I couldn't stop listening to this, it's 5am and I'm too old for all nighters.
Love the story, love the characters, love the narrator!
I've got to learn the "keep the bugs away" and the "keep it clean" spell. I also want an Em.
Fantastic 1st and I hope to see more in this series.
What the heck I'm pushing play on book 2. Who needs sleep.
