Publisher's summary

Twenty-seven years is a long time unless you are trying to save the world.

Nick was enjoying a late fall day, happily skipping his English class, when he was interrupted by a little silver ball. A ball that not only spoke, but claimed to be an alien artificial intelligence sent to warn humanity that a xenophobic alien race was on its way to wipe out every man, woman, and child on the Earth. The catch: They would arrive in 27 years.

Can Nick prepare the world for an invasion that no one knows is coming? Can he gather the people together to do what he can't? Can he move the sciences forward a thousand years in just under 30? Most importantly, can he finish high school?

After all, when someone asks you to save the world, there is only one right answer: "Sure?"

High school students with mission to save humanity

Interesting concept that a uninspiring student by an alien AI to save humanity in 27 years. Nick picks a team of classmates to become national or world leaders in science, the military, public influencer, and politics. The collection of such talent in one high school class, and their success, stretch the odds. This is an easy listen.

Partial story

I wish I would have realized that this book is going to end where it does. I enjoyed this book, but I want a book to come to a conclusion, and not have to rely on one or more future books to find out what the heck happens. I’m done with this author.

A heartwarmingly innocent escape

Upsides
The characters are interesting, if slightly stereotypical, the plot is unique, sort of like a combination of enders game and mysterious Benedict society. All in all, if you’re into lighthearted science-fiction with a dash of geopolitics this story is absolutely worth your time.

Downsides
The characters strain plausibility in someways. They seem to have an almost magical level of skill in their fields. I also personally found it somewhat hard to suspend my disbelief surrounding certain aspects of the “science” so not the hardest of science fiction. Finally one other minor thing.
I don’t like it when books try to preach politics at me, but this book really bends over backwards to avoid doing it. I mean seriously how can you have an entire sub plot revolving around the US political system and never say what party various characters are in.

Its surprising good!

I initially got this cause it was on sale, but I am so glad I did. It started a bit slow, but I got totally sucked in and HAD to finish this and the next book ASAP.

Know what you’re getting…..

Sometimes I want something lighthearted that doesn’t offer any challenges, just keeps me company while I drive or workout or do laundry. Found it! It’s not great literature, not even great sci-fi but a pleasant little fantasy. I taught academically advanced high school students and no, this isn’t realistic - but I don’t read this stuff for realism. (To paraphrase a quote from the book, if you can’t sell the lie, offer up a wildly exaggerated version of the truth.) I also like hard-core science fiction which this definitely is not. It’s an easy-listen escape from reality with some mildly amusing characters, narrated well. The rating reflects my level of enjoyment.

If this describes what you’re looking for, this book is for you. Otherwise, just move on.

Engaging, Great Narrator

Great engaging story, wish the swearing was edited out. Narrator terrific -does multiple accents, and young and older voices so the story comes alive.
