So far so good

There seems to be a lot of negative reviews recently so thought I’d add my two cents. To be clear, my review is based on entertainment value. To me.

I am enjoying the book and the narrator’s performance so far. If you like a book about alien discovery (tech) and the potential Socioeconomic-world power implications then I’m recommending this book. It’s great entertainment for me and the characters are compelling.

Would have gotten 5 stars if they….

Would have gotten 5 stars if they would’ve left the nasty cigarettes out of the story. Come on, nobody on a spaceship or a space base is going to be soaking up the air recycling by smoking a nasty 🤢 cigarette. Surely the author is not so untalented to need to use this tactic to make the word counts.

Really good take on the average joe finds spaceship genre. There could be more action and, I suspect will be as the story unfolds in the sequence. It reminded me of the original novel that ignited my love for SciFi (Heinlein’s have spacesuit will travel) could do with a bit of editing to reduce some repetition but not enough to warrant fewer stars. I am starting book 2 as soon as I finish writing this review.

great story but...

the story has huge potential. the characters are pretty good and the plot is quite good. if I have one problem it's the representation of the female characters. sadly the author doesn't redeem this until the end of the book which I believe is on purpose you'll have to read it to understand what I'm talking about but for most of the book most of the female characters are inept stereotypical helpless or they are attractive honey pots. now that I've finished the book though I feel that this was done on purpose. you'll have to read it to see what I'm talking about it's a good book though and I look forward to the second story in the series.

... And interesting Start on a good narrative

This book may have just too many characters for Mark B. to keep them all distinctive from each other. There are times in the book I think things are glossed over or taken for granted that they happened to keep the flow of the story moving. The read/listen is enjoyable and I can only hope that if something like this really happens, characters like Simon and Kitty are the ones to find it. I believe Bob's thoughts on this are spot on to the US Government's reaction to such a find.
I eagerly look forward to the next book.

Great story for the whole book except for that last chapter

🚨***SPOILER ALERT***🚨

I hate it so much, why did he have to kill Simon. The story did not need that. Went from cant wait to get next book in series to not wanting to finish that last 10 minuets of this one so fast. Hate it.

Fantastic Story!

Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Cannot wait to dive into book 2!!!

Actually, it got better. Nice twist Protagonists vs USA

Not your typical feel-good space opera, yet it is satisfyingly feel-good. A bit annoying & Pollyanna-like in some ways, the twists of conflict & cooperation do certainly mirror the views of many Americans. Mark Boyett is not quite my favorite reader, but does a good job overall. The aliens in the next book could be interesting.

the best series ever

I have listen to this book several times, and I just can't get enough. I wish the author hadn't died so he can continue the story
