Books 1-3 in the Culling Series

Book 1, The Culling: 150 years after a virus wipes out most of the world's population, Reagan Scott finds herself chosen for the State of the Union's fifth Culling. She will compete against forty-nine of the country's brightest girls. And then, of course, there are the fifty boys. She'll have to pair up with one for her shot at becoming the next Presidential Couple.

Though the government truly means well, not everything is as it seems. She will be tested to the fullest extent while an evil storm brews.

Book 2, The Fracturing: As the competition for Presidential Couple continues and the final four are solidified, the campaigning begins, sending Reagan on a tour of the townships to vie for the votes and hearts of the nation. Though she's finally with the one who has always had her heart, everything else seems to be spinning out of control. With enemies both within the Culling and outside of it, it's not a matter of if something will happen . . . but when.

Book 3, The Reckoning: In the final moments of The Fracturing, Reagan was taken. While the rest of the country casts their votes for the next Presidential Couple, Reagan must now fight to survive.

Great reader!

This reader is fantastic. It’s easy to discern which voices she is doing by the way she characterizes her voice. She tells the story fantastically, and I’ll probably seek her out to hear another story.
The author also did a pretty good job here. I was really disappointed with the lackluster ending because it was such a big and grand story, and I feel like they just kind of gave up at the end. I would’ve liked to have more of a climactic interaction between Marjorie and the protagonist for the final battle. All in all I definitely would recommend this story!

It's the Hallmark version of the apocalypse

This story was a little difficult for me to finish, but the overall plot was good. The details, however, were what made it tough. There was much time spent on fashion details, a guy for every girl, and a somewhat predictable chain of events. What was most troubling, though, were some of the chauvinist comments made by the male characters, "she's a feisty little thing," being tops among them. The narrator's voice, sometimes a little over-dramatic, is pleasant, which helped make the story more enjoyable.

Good

I liked this series. It wasn’t a very deep plot but still enjoyable. I will probably continue with the next 4 books.

Aw, man...

So... this series... had an honestly amazing plot line a super creative story. I actually hate how I ended up feeling about it. It's hard to embrace an 18 ur old main character as a super tough, brilliant young "woman" taking over the post apocalyptic world... when she is soooooo juvenile?? Childish responses that read like their being said by a middle aged mom in fear of her daughters purity. like, it actually made me sad. This series had so so so much potential. Also, filled with read between the lines misogyny fully embraced by our Tough female hero. Insanely unrealistic if you have any clear idea of what it means to be that awesome. She fully accepts her bf addressing her as a dainty flower... idk. I physically rolled my eyes at so many of the childish responses. like, what young adult in the past 5 decades consistently refers it kissing her boyfriend as "Smooching" over, and over, and over and....

Hey teen girl reading this.... taking natural next steps In a relationship with someone you love Before marriage (if you were to even choose marriage at all) absolutely DOES NOT make you "that kinda girl". It makes you human.

Anyone else, if by chapter 5 of book 1 your nervous about an out word religious or biblical turn... don't worry it's coming halfway through book 2.

So much potential, so little realistic behavior. I wanted to love it, I swear.

just meh

The story started out interesting and then completely lost it. Very impractical story line, a too perfect main character, no character depth even though it seemed like the author was trying just failed to hit the mark. By the end I was struggling to push through and skipping a lot. Ending was ridiculous and had me eye rolling the entire time.

Great Series

This was a fun series to listen to and the narrator was wonderful. The books were entertaining and I enjoyed the idea of a post Trident world.

still listening

I'm still listening and it's not a bad book. It started really interesting and I was addicted. Then it really started to... bug me. First the reader sounds like a disney princess, the way she reads is very drawn out? It is most inconvenient. Instead of saying something is inconvenient. You'll get it when you listen. it's like that a lot. Or I should say "It is very much like that often" lol. It really doesn't really bother me, but every time I can't help notice it.

The thing that actually does bother me is the longer I listen the more unrealistic it seems to get. The main character is flawless, perfect and everything she does gets praised. She decides to go against the rules and they all cheer. Even the president. She loses her temper and gets praised. She's taking classes sure, but she's better than everybody else when they have more experience and have been doing it all their life. She just shows up, tell them how to do their job better when she gets upset and everybody is like "yeah that makes sense good job. "

could have been a better storyline

The narrator was ok. The story didn't stay on track. It went onto sidelines about what they were wearing way too much and didn't really delve into what the culling was about all that much. I think it would have been just one book if all the "filler" was taken out. I prefer super long books with a good involved storyline, and this just didn't have that.

Joy

This book had a smile on my face most of the time. It wasn't very predictable either. I enjoyed the storyline and all of the characters. They were each fleshed out very well.
