Publisher's summary

Ditching the stuffy hang-ups and benighted sexual traditionalism of the past is an unambiguously positive thing. The sexual revolution has liberated us to enjoy a heady mixture of erotic freedom and personal autonomy. Right?

Wrong, argues Louise Perry in her provocative new book. Although it would be neither possible nor desirable to turn the clock back to a world of pre-60s sexual mores, she argues that the amoral libertinism and callous disenchantment of liberal feminism and our contemporary hypersexualised culture represent more loss than gain. The main winners from a world of rough sex, hook-up culture, and ubiquitous porn–where anything goes and only consent matters–are a tiny minority of high-status men, not the women forced to accommodate the excesses of male lust. While dispensing sage advice to the generations paying the price for these excesses, she makes a passionate case for a new sexual culture built around dignity, virtue, and restraint.

This counter-cultural polemic from one of the most exciting young voices in contemporary feminism should be listened to by all men and women uneasy about the mindless orthodoxies of our ultra-liberal era.

Must read for young women and mothers of young women .

This echoed much of what I have learned to true, and why I have always rejected the modern definition of feminism. While I do wish it acknowledged the participation of women in the propagation of this culture, I believe the book is completely accurate and every statement made needs to be said, heard and discussed.

Well researched, well written critique of the modern feminist failures

I appreciate the few dive into all things feminist, sexual, and philosophical. She makes a compelling argument for the values of marriage, morality, and love. The author distinguishes their opposites by highlighting the painful and demoralizing affects of hookup culture in women and girls. Highly recommend.

Nice to read in this day and age

Refreshing content. It’s nice to be exposed to stuff other than what is normally shown on social media and the internet lately

Interesting ideas; I listened to it in one day

This brought up some really good ideas and resonated with me as I struggle with sex and desire and the male gaze.

Important, timely, chillingly persuasive

By the end of the book, it’s amazing how her extensive research and argument comes down to what so long was common sense, should be today, and will be again. Great and important read.

One of the most relevant books in the 21st-century!

I’m recommending this book to my daughters, my sisters and my nieces! The author has done an excellent job of bringing to light in our modern world, what we have always, instinctively known as women, and as an intelligent, advanced culture—but have denied for so many decades since the so-called “sexual revolution“. Extremely well written, and well researched. Definitely a must read!

A must-read for young women in general

What the author has to say is something our mothers or grandmothers would have told us too (if we let them), meaning the ideas are not revolutionary but relatively simple. However, in recent times, this does sound radical or too much; hence if you are reading this, you must keep a very open mind.
I loved the author’s authenticity throughout the book. Her words are sharp and can feel eye-opening, thus creating an opportunity to see something for the first time in a different light.
The author made me think. Very well written, and I loved her narration.
