Publisher's summary

Tackling relationships, career, and family issues, John Kim, LMFT, thinks of himself as a life-style designer, not a therapist. His radical new approach, that he sometimes calls “self-help in a shot glass” is easy, real, and to the point. He helps people make changes to their lives so that personal growth happens organically, just by living.

Let’s face it, therapy is a luxury. Few of us have the time or money to devote to going to an office every week. With anecdotes illustrating principles in action (in relatable and sometimes irreverent fashion) and stand-alone practices and exercises, Kim gives listeners the tools and directions to focus on what's right with them instead of what's wrong. When John Kim was going through the end of a relationship, he began blogging as The Angry Therapist, documenting his personal journey post-divorce. Traditional therapists avoid transparency, but Kim preferred the language of "me too" as opposed to "you should". He blogged about his own shortcomings, revelations, views on relationships, and the world. He spoke a different therapeutic language - open, raw, and at times subversive - and people responded. The Angry Therapist blog, that inspired this book, has been featured in The Atlantic Monthly and on NPR.

Felt Like the Therapist Was Sitting Next 2 Me

Very helpful and concise recording. John Kim made his book very comprehensive, relatable, and compelling. Got right to the point without unnecessary over intellectualization. His warm compassionate demeanor really came through.

Amazing listen, bought the book for my shelf!

An amazing straightforward, non sugar coated way to tell me how to get my life together. I needed this, and I’m thinking about it every day.

Very Relateable

John's rawness is what captured me. Not only have I been applying this to my own life, ironically, but as a fellow Therapist, I also work with my clients with supporting them through this journey of acceptance and owning their lives in order to be able to fully embrace themselves holistically. I appreciate every single chapter in this book and all that they share. This one is a MUST on our bookshelves/audio.

Listen to this first, then “Single. On Purpose”

Great listen for only 4 hours. I bought “Single. On Purpose” and decided to get this one too. It is a great to-the-point book about how to make impactful changes in your life.

Excellent!

Wow! The ideas expressed in this book and the way they were expressed really resonated with me. The author's shared experiences are highly relatable and he has a lot of wisdom gained from his journey. I was in the right head space for this book and it is a life-changer! Thanks, John.
