Publisher's Summary

In the shore town of Sea Breeze, Sadie discovers that fame is nothing in the face of passion. A steamy listen from best-selling author Abbi Glines.

Sadie White’s summer job is at the beach, but she won’t be working as a lifeguard. Since her mom is pregnant and refuses to work, Sadie will be taking over as a domestic servant for a wealthy family on a nearby island.

When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie were normal - if she hadn’t spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house - maybe she’d be excited about working for a rock star. But she’s not.

Even though Sadie isn’t impressed by Jax’s fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax, but he fights his attraction: Relationships never work in his world, and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. Yet as the summer stretches on, Jax’s passion leaves him breathless - and Sadie feels like the only source of oxygen.

Can their love overcome the disparity in their lifestyles? One breath at a time, they’re going to find out.....

"I didn't think it was YA!"

I debated about getting this book for eons...I'm not really into young adult novels, sure twilight was decent but I tell myself it was the vampire thing that got me through the intense YA story....I didn't get the same vibe from this book, I would classify it as Romance of the fluff variety.

Yes, the story revolves around a 17 year old girl....but this "girl" has been the head of her household since she was 11 due to piss poor parenting. I know a "kid" like that and trust me, she is no kid! But I see why people would confuse a younger person storyline with it being a YA novel.

There were a few steamy scenes (in full detail) and a few f-bombs dropped, but ultimately the story moved slower in the romance department because we are dealing with inexperienced kids and to have them shack up on page three would have just been horrible. So yes, this is romance not erotica, and it was predictable and full of fluff but that was what I wanted. I really wish there was a sequel to this couples story, this is part of a series and I hope the writer comes back to these two...I want to know more of their story.

So, if you are looking for some wham bam action on page 3 this is not the book for you, but if you want some fluffy romance star crossed lovers thing then add it to your cart :-)

    "Good story, bad male voice."
Would you listen to Breathe again? Why?

No, couldn't stand the voice for Jax while he was narrating

What was one of the most memorable moments of Breathe?

When Jax and Sadie went back to his house after the movie!

Would you ever listen to anything by Abbi Glines again?

    yes

Have you listened to any of Kirby Heyborne and Shayna Thibodeaux ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This performance was one of the best I have heard from Kirby as compared to other books by this writer were he got on my nerves......Shayna done wonderful as always!

    Any additional comments?

Lucky for me I read this series out of order (backwards) if I would not have I more then likely would of stopped after this book. It just didn't grip me and hold me like the other books in this series. The love between the two made me want to roll my eyes ( exp. some of the mushy stuff they would say to each other) and they feel in love WAY too fast! There was a good story in there but felt booged down under the confessions of their feelings. Still an okay book better ones to come in the series so please don't stop with this one. And if you truly want to skip over this one that can be done b/c you will see these two in other books and learn their story with out all the mushy gushiness of it all.

    "Not that great"

I really liked the characters but the story just wasn't filled out enough. They spent most of the book apart and the next in series(which I think I will not continue ) is about side characters in this one. The female narrator was just ok and the male.....well all I can say is where is Sebastian York when you need him?? This guy was really !!! bad.

    "My first Abbi Glines book!"
Where does Breathe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book isn't one of my favorites, but I wasn't the biggest fan of Sadie. That being said, this book is probably more middle of the road for me. The narration was okay, the story line semi-predictable, and the forbidden aspect of it perfect.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jax Stone. Who doesn't love the broody rock star who is sweet and irresistible and perfect?!

What aspect of Kirby Heyborne and Shayna Thibodeaux ’s performance would you have changed?

I'm not sure if I would have changed anything about their performance. I'm not sure how much of my struggle was with the performance and how much was just an issue with the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Once I got started I just had to see where things went. In fact, I did finish this book in one sitting while on a ridiculously long car ride.

    "Twilight with a Rock Star"
Where does Breathe rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not what I usually choose, but it kept me entertained for the entire book.

What other book might you compare Breathe to and why?

Twilight - absolutely. Shy, new girl who doesn't realize how beautiful she is and doesn't understand why all the boys like her. Meets rock star (or vampire) and they fall dangerously in love. Rock star (or vampire) thinks he is bad for her and leaves for her own good, only to return because they can't live without each other. Too many parallels to list but it was fun ticking them off in my head as I listened.

Which character – as performed by Kirby Heyborne and Shayna Thibodeaux – was your favorite?

Sadie - the plucky heroine. But Jax was interesting as well. Most narrators using southern accents are so phony and annoying that I can't stand to listen, but these guys sound like the real deal - or they are very good mimics. Either way, it helped the story to sound authentic.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Jax sings to Sadie to "bring her back to him".

    Any additional comments?

Definitely a young adult type romance, but there were a couple steamy scenes as well.

    "Horrible horrible horrible"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you enjoy child pornography, this might be for you. The main character is SEVENTEEN years old. This is borderline pornographic and no one seems to have an issue with the main character being under age and involved with a man who is over 21. Seriously? This was awful. And that isn't even taking into account the poor writing.

Would you ever listen to anything by Abbi Glines again?

I would never ever listen to anything by this author again. How did she manage to get more than one book published???

I know I'm among the few that didn't love this book, but it just never did anything for me. I struggled with ever turning it on (hence taking 5 months to finish it). This book is the prime example of why I hesitate to read YA. It ends up being a walking cliche: the clueless virgin, the lonely rockstar, insta-love, crappy parents, angst and jealousy because there's no communication, the forgotten birth control, and I could go on. I really struggled to find any redeeming qualities in this book, so it's safe to say I won't be continuing with the author or series.

"More YA than NA, but fun"

The book was fun and well-written, though not an awful lot happens in the story. Just be aware that this is really more YA (Young Adult) with sex, rather than NA (New Adult). The protagonist is 17 years old, still in school and the themes are the typical coming-of-age and identity-development ones of teen books. There were some believability issues, but the story flowed well and was enough fun to listen to that I'll consider other books by Abbie Glines

I preferred the male narrator. The female narrator had a very staccato way of speaking which made the heroine sound flip and casual, even when the words/story indicated that she wasn't.
