Publisher's summary

Life is a series of events, one leading you to another. The hell I lived through with my drug-addicted parents led me to the Marine Corps. Committing my life to my country was easy. My brothers were my family - all I had and all I needed. I wasn’t looking for her, but I should have known life had other plans.

It led me to her.

From the moment we met, I knew he was different - I just didn’t realize he'd change my life. He was a guy on leave, an acquaintance. Until he was something more, something unforgettable. I never imagined he'd leave 10 days later, taking a piece of me with him. Then again, maybe I did know. I just didn't care.

He was worth it.

Emotional well written story

This is a beautiful YA story following Austyn and Slade. Slade is in the Marines and when he meets Austyn, the friend of his best friend, he knows she's it for him. They are both really young and in many ways, this is reflected really well by the author. Kaylee Ryan also did an amazing job reflecting the trials and tribulation of our amazing heroes in the military and the people who love them. It was a compelling, beautiful story about love and strength. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 is that I felt that the first half was a little slow. But still, this story was beautifully written. I loved Austyn's family as well, as well as their close friends. Overall, definitely a well written, emotional story.

I listened to the audiobook through audible escape when I didn't read the book through KU. It was a well narrated story although I thought Brandon Utah's female voice was a little too forced. Macy Sterling did a good job overall and I really enjoyed the narration.

Excellent Story

This storyline was great. I loved how true to the military story line she stayed. The conflicts with dealing with injuries and the after math of what happens. very impress3d.

just....wow

I listen to several books a week. Probably 6 to 7. This book, within a few chapters, began slowly inching its way to my all time favorite. I'd also like to point out that I've never reviewed a book before but this deserves the 5 star rating and all the praise I can muster up. Kaylee Ryan is a favorite of mine but this is like nothing I've ever listened to before. A true, genuine love story. The cutest first date, the progression of the relationship between Austin and Slade, to being each other's reason for living. The way this is written, you are right there with them. You laugh with them over the awkward "firsts " and you cry, oh boy do you cry when they get dealt the blows. The love never waivers, not even a little. I truly loved it and will read this again and again. Amazing!

Meh...

I think it would’ve been better had I read the book instead of listening to the audiobook. The narrators just really bothered me at times. I also wish there was a disclaimer stating this book was about such a young couple.

One chance..

Really, Really enjoyed this one. I love a good slow burn and this one definitely qualifies!!! Slade and Austin were an amazing couple. I felt the angst as their relationship grew. The ending seemed kind of rushed and almost felt like a different book.

The narrators, Macy Sterling and Brandon Utah, were perfection!

Exceptional Story

The writer tells a story in full details as if she's lived the life from the perspective of her characters. It is the exact emotional ups and downs of a military girlfriend, wife, etc.
You will not be disappointed if you buy this book!
I hope she decides to write more similar to this one. Maybe even a series?? *hint hint I would buy them all!!

Good but...

This was good story but it was too drawn out. I skipped so many chapters to get to the end. I actually got bored because nothing was happening in the story. The narrators were good and will definitely look more from this dual.
