Publisher's summary

Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down.

Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty.

A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time.

It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

An apex predator that made the entirety of the paranormal world fear him. His very species was often killed as soon as they were found out.

By government and citizen alike.

He’s a Boogieman.

A name that made humans laugh, and vampires curse. It was a strange life to be sure.

Now though, Gus’s stable non-life is about to be kicked over. Whether he likes it or not, he’s about to be handed a case that’s going to mess up his already screwed up life.

A home run swing

As a long time fan of both William D Arand and Randy Darren, let me just say this is William at his best. The world building and characters are both familiar and yet still unique. The plot is very clean and to the point. The story and the surrounding mystery are extremely enthralling. It will definitely leave the reader wanting the next book in the series.

It is in many ways comparable to Jim Butcher's Dresden files in terms of theme and mystery, but with a traditional William-esq spin. I don't typically evoke the "Dresden Files" as a descriptor but in this case it is very applicable, and speaks toward the praise i have for it.

Andrea Parsneau delivers a superior performance to even her usual superb quality. It's a real treat this time around.

I find it hard to criticize anything about this book, but if I was forced to I would say the overarching mystery is left unresolved, but even that is handled pretty well, and that's coming from someone who hates cliff hangers and loose plot threads.

If you haven't tried a William D. Arand audio book I would recommend trying this one as a solid first pick. If you are an older fan, this book is mandatory, it's just that good.

another great addition

very well done. love the concept especially the cop angle. the harem is actually very fleshed out and doesn't seem forced at all. I like this one almost as much as fostering faust. if you haven't read that one O.O do it.

worth the listen

Andrea Parsneau is a decent narrator. Not the best I've heard, but I enjoy listening to books she narrates. The overall concept for this book is not one that I have come across before, so for me its a bit refreshing. The ending of the book definitely sets up for a harem to be established.

Gods hope he will continue this series, cause I want more of this people in it. MAGNIFICENT, simply magnificent.

Very strange, and very fun ….

The voicing of the main characters is a bit tough to get used to at the start, but I really, really encourage you to give it a strong effort … it gets to be very much fun, and the voicings really appropriate and adding to the characters once you surrender into the story and let it flow for you. I really, really, liked this strange paranormal society with its very, very unusual inhabitants. I'm hoping there will be more.

author needs to trust us more

My one and only real problem with the book is the author choosing to do a refresher on everything every few chapters, as if we couldn't remember who was who and what they were think in movies when a character says

"You are my sister, we've been close friends for thirty years and even went to school together!" kind if exposition dumps.

Great characyers, great plotline that takes some small inconsequential detail and hands it to you then smirks as it becomes an integral clue. you are rewarded for paying attention and nothing is ever not important even if its something you thought was a throwaway piece of world building

Love it.

William D. Arand is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. He blends action. comedy and a bit of sexy fun into a well rounded story and merges the worlds he's created in fun interesting ways.

Another Excellent Book!

What can I say except excellent! I Love the characters and I love the story and I can’t wait for the next book! Andrea Parsneau has once again done an Marvelous performance! My only problem is that although William D Arand is a very prolific author and Andrea Parsneau is a very prolific narrator I still can’t get enough of their work!
