Publisher's summary

Secret societies, serial killers, and a seriously snarky PI.

When Ginger Mitchell finds out her mother committed suicide, she packs up her life as a Vegas "dancer" (hey, somebody's gotta do it) and drives her cherry-red SUV straight home to Portland. Without a disapproving mom to rebel against, what was the point?

When she arrives back in her hometown, she finds a lot more going on than fancy food trucks and put-a-bird-on-it hipsters.

Murders are being passed off as suicides. College-aged women keep going missing. And then there's the troubling spate of mobsters who keep inviting her out to eat.

With a pile of cash saved from her last job and no one around to tell her not to, Ginger decides to become a private investigator, to find out exactly what's gone wrong in the City of Roses. First up: Her mother's "suicide."

Includes the first six novellas in the Roseland series, Home Is Where the Start Is, The Ruth Is Out There, The Body in the Pool, Amber Alert, Jane Dead, Welcome to Roseland.

Quite entertaining! Great characters, great “read”!

Eric’s books are fast paced and entertaining. Jumped onto this after ripping through food guys and bad guys series. This series is completely different but feels similar. Fast paced. Great characters. Great performance and overall entertaining.

Very good

I enjoyed this so much
It’s one of those books where you read/ listen and you just fall fully into the story. You don’t get mad at the author you get mad at characters it’s just very well written. 10/10 recommend.
That is if you like murder mysteries filled with snide remarks and ex escorts turned private eye.

Enjoyed It

I'm all caught up with Eric's Good Guys and Bad Guys so this looked interesting to hold me over. Enjoyed the 'quick fix' story. While long, there aren't a bunch of loose ends stretching on for 12-13 books.
All the characters are interesting enough to care about. Ginger is equally flawed and a powerhouse. She succeedes by shire will and blishful ignorance a lot of the time. It's nice not having to listen to pages of internal debate lol.
Candace does an amazing job, especially with all the Russian voices. I will look for her on other authors for sure.

Fun first book in the series.

Audible does a great job of offering books included in the membership. I really enjoyed the real dialogue and the main characters . Definitely will get the next book.

Very entertaining!

Thoroughly enjoyed the light hearted escapades of Ginger. Candace Thaxton is the perfect voice as Ginger, and the other personalities are well portrayed, too. Listened to this while working in the yard or driving. Didn’t miss the occasional word or phrase if the noise overwhelms the narrator, but there’s always the back button. Look forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Loved It!

I enjoyed the fast pace, the snarky banter... even the "She said, He said" Didn't annoy me like it did other reviewers. I'm ready for the next series.

A great find!

I'm a big fan of Mr Ugland's two litRPG series, The Good Guys & The Bad Guys. when I saw that this PI series was available for free to subscribers, I thought I'd give it a chance, And I'm glad I did! I I new I'd love Mr Ugland's writing style, but I also loved the characters and Miss Thaxton's narration is outstanding!

good story

the author has taken the plot in many different directions but it is pretty intsequels, and mostly cohesive. good character development. like the characters. the narrator us perfect accept fir the way she says "he said" "she said" it's a but mechanical but not hard to overlook. I will probably buy the sequals.

Good grief

Not at all a realistic crime thriller. It was interesting enough that it kept me listening but I couldn't believe how stupid the author made the police look. Good grief. The best thing about this audiobook was the narration. SHE made it more interesting.
