Bright and fun Christmas romance

At first I didn't know if I would like this book because I do not like flighty, helpless heroine types and at first Mary seemed helpless in the Highland cottage. Also, she had 3 brothers who seemed overly controlling and she had a hard time standing up to them. But as the story developed, Mary grew stronger and more independent and the controlling men in her life learned some things too. All the animals in the story were fun and the theme of Mary growing through the writing of the characters in her novel was a fresh idea. Also her job of matching the secret santa gifts with their recipients was enjoyable. Her developing romance with the vet, Theo was also a work in progress. The setting in a snowy village in the Scottish Highlands was perfect for CHristmas and the other characters in the book added to the romance and charm of the story, Yes, it was very sweet and a little overdone but still an enjoyable Christmas tale. The narrator did a good job of conveying the joy and brightness of the season.
