Publisher's summary

Jakkar

After losing all of our females, I hadn't thought life could get any worse until I was stripped of my crown and exiled by my twin brother. With my world in turmoil, my spirit mate crashed into my life when I needed her the most. She was not of Valose but a stranger from another world. Newly awakened, my ancillary heart beats for one reason only—to keep her safe. Now I must protect her from old enemies as well as new yet what came with her posed a unique danger that can't be fought with swords. There was nothing I wouldn't do for her. Unfortunately, what she wanted the most would tear apart my very soul.

Lily

I thought the abduction had been bad enough, but the crash-landing had nearly killed me. Stranded on an alien world, all I wanted was to find a way to get myself and the other girls home. When the solution presented itself in the form of a kilt-wearing, hopeless romantic with serious muscles, sexy elf ears, and the belief that soul mates truly existed...Well, I was no longer in a huge rush to leave.

Note: A glossary of Valosian terms has been added, and the italics removed from alien words.

Major cliffhanger!!!

A terrific story with great performances by the narrators. Very disappointed that right in the middle of the story, it ends. No completion and a major cliffhanger with no second book available.

Pleasantly surprised

I do enjoy alien books, usually they follow along the same script. I am happy that this author found a way to make this storyline feel different.

Better than I expected!

Character development: 😠☺️😋😎🥰

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Lily - she found out her fiance had been cheating on her, then was abducted by aliens who drugged her, put her nearly naked in an electrified cage and performed medical experiments on her and the other human woman in cages around her. When the spaceship she was on crash landed, she wanted nothing more than to find a way back to Earth.

The Hero: Jakkar - He was on his planet, Valose in a watch tower when he saw a massive vessel crash nearby. He and some of his friends go to check it out, not knowing what they would find at the site. He had been a prince that was banished from the palace by his twin brother and now lives with others in a settlement far from the city, and with them is a spy for his twin, Rayyar whom Jakkar has to play dumb with and pretend he doesn’t know that Rayyar is a traitor.

The Story: Jakkar and the people that follow him live in the ruins of an abandoned city while watching as their world goes to crap. Most of their people live in the big city under a dome which is starting to fail. The dome keeps them safe and many of the people have become lazy, Jakkar’s brother having cancelled all warrior training after the dome was in place. Though Jakkar and his men keep up on their training. When they reach the crash site to scavenge the vessel, he finds human women and knows immediately that Lily is his spirit mate when his ancillary heart starts beating.

The story was good, but derivative at first. Like many other alien romances, this one had all the females on the planet eradicated. This time it was by an alien germ that Jakkar’s brother brought back after traveling the galaxy. Also, I don’t know why all these alien romance books have to have a warrior or barbarian race. I just want more where the aliens are more technologically advanced than us.

The story got much better as it went along and I was surprised at how good it turned out to be. The storyline about Jakkar and his brother was very interesting and I liked the fact that the aliens who stole the human females at the beginning had mind control abilities.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Macie Miller and Marcus Rayne. Macie Miller has a nice voice but sounds like she is trying to hard to portray genuine emotions, or she is overacting. I liked Marcus Rayne’s voice and he did a better job though his cadence was a bit too similar to Macie’s.

Good Start

Interesting storyline,; kept my mind engaged in actively listening. Length of book one was perfect, not filled with unnecessary fluff. Narrators did a great job with characters. Looking forward to book two.
