Publisher's summary

Can I resist my grouchy orc boss?

Desperate to escape the clutches of the alien lizard mafia, I accept a spur-of-the-moment job offer on a distant planet. A monstrous, grumpy alien is building a new home in a distant colony, and he’s looking for an assistant.

He needs me to hold his hammer. I get it. It’s a big hammer.

He's a lonely barbarian brute with a gruff exterior, but I soon learn that inside, he's hiding a squishy center. When he unexpectedly enters his mating frenzy, there’s no one around to handle the job—except me. He gives me two options: return home or stay and help him with a whole different kind of nailing.

Nailing the Alien is book one in the Beastly Alien Boss series. Each features a brutish alien who can’t resist falling for his fated mate.

Favorite Orc

I really loved this story. The narrators did a great job, especially the male narrator. His voice had me laughing out loud a few times.

Gruff Orc Alien!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😠😚😁☺️
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Cora - her brother owed a debt to the vessar, an alien lizard mafia. They thought they could collect it from Cora since her brother couldn’t be found. They wanted to auction her off to recoup their losses from her brother’s debt. While running away from the mafia, she comes across the intergalactic employment agency and decides to give it a try, especially when they have a position in construction in another quadrant which she had done before and it started immediately. She would leave Earth right away and be in suspension during transport that was light years away.

The Hero: Kreel - He is building a home for himself, grumpily regaling the fact that when he agreed to come to the planet Myrth 487 to build residences and centers of commerce and provide oversight of the settlers, he was promised an assistant. So he was not happy to be doing the work without an assistant anywhere in sight.

The Story: When Cora arrives for the job of assistant to Kreel, he is not happy to see his new assistant who is supposed to help build his house is a human female. Though when she tells him of her construction experience he agrees to let her stay. He is attracted to her from the start and she him, though she thinks he is much too big for her.

I love how Kreel is so grouchy all the time, and when his mating instinct flares up he growls and is even more cantankerous. I also loved how Cora takes everything in stride and never laments the things that had happened to her. She has a very positive outlook on life and is happy as can be most of the time.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration, and was narrated by Hollie Jackson and Patrick Zellar. Hollie Jackson is a great narrator and has done a lot of alien romance, including Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians, so I really like her voice and style. This is the first time I have heard Patrick Zellar, though I like his deep voice and grumpy countenance. He does a good job with this one and really did the grumpy, growly male very well.

A novella was also included, so bonus!!

Meh. Disappointing

I read to be entertained and use my imagination to travel. This was not worth my time. The supposedly funny comments were crude innuendos. I didn’t find it humorous. The female is the one thinking these crude things. I’m sure that is done, but it wasn’t believable. There is a novella included and it’s the same thing. It’s just feels like a teens crude thoughts. I wasn’t amused or entertained.

I was a bit disappointed

I love her books! This is the first one I've not cared for. The male voice actor wasn't my favorite way to regal sounding and I got man in his 50s after a younger woman from his tone. I never could shake the thought of Jorah Mormont lusting after Daenerys Targaryen in game of thrones. even though both characters were suppose to about the same age. the writing was flighty not making sense sometimes. what was suppose to be the climax didn't climax at all. I won't do spoilers so I'll just say the back stories of everyone was very lacking and sometimes that's fine and their not needed but they were needed here. I had far to many why's and questions at the end. like why come for her? I get the family connection but why her? was there no one else in the family to go after? why did the cousin do it. where did he go? what about her friends she mentioned them a few times? how did she afford her apartment when she struggled like she said. the influence of the aliens? she seemed pretty use to them on earth so how long they been there? is this related to other books and suppose to be on a time line with in that universe somewhere? I could go on and on. I still rated a 3 because her past books have been great and I'm still going to buy the second in the series and hope this was just a one off flop for me. I still recommend reading it to get a foot Into this series. it's not a hard listen I finished it in a little more than a day. I love your books Ava please keep writing

Cute story

While not as steamy as it could be, this is a cute story with interesting character interactions and an overall feel-good read.

the tide bits of comedy which I couldn't get enough of.

I love these innocent holding back as much as possible but not overdoing it romance moments. I also appreciate the characters conversing more so than listening to their thoughts endlessly without any action. direct communication is so much more satisfying.

disappointing

it's hard to believe a woman on the run for her life is instantly attracted to an orc. the male narration sounds like he's a very old grumpy guy listing after a young woman. I've read some great stories from the author. this is not one of them. waste of a credit
