Publisher's summary

He called himself Peregrine, the wanderer, and he came to London for revenge...

Like the falcon he named himself for, Peregrine is wild and free, an exotic prince who fascinates 1839 London with his wealth, mystery, and dangerous allure. He emerged from his mysterious Asiatic past to exact retribution for an appalling crime. Nothing and no one can stop him - except perhaps Lady Sara St. James, whose fragile beauty conceals a gentle heart, genuine goodness, and a soul of steel.

Unable to resist his seductive charm, Lady Sara turns away from her ordered life to embrace a man she loves, but cannot fully trust. In Sara, Peregrine sees a chance for a life beyond revenge. But can he keep her without revealing his devastating secrets? Or protect her from the enemy he has vowed to destroy?

Excellent story and narrator.

Loved this book. And, finally, a great narrator! Look forward to the next in the series.

Well-written, well-developed characters

Mary Jo Putney certainly knows how to write stories with characters who pull you right into the story. This book is no exception. I've listened to many of MJP's books...all good....some great. Siobhan Waring is a perfect narrator for MJP's books. She and her voice help capture the listener...pull us in...keep us there. In this book, Peregrine (the hero) has a distinctive voice...deep and Middle Eastern. Siobhan Waring did an outstanding job with Peregrine's voice.

Excellent book with important issues

I really enjoyed this incredible book, I could not stop listening and stayed up at night to finish. What an amazing story . This is so much more than an outstanding love story. It’s also very uplifting and important to learn to view our previous scars with love and kindness to ourselves instead of feeling flawed and less than because we are different or crippled. Sometimes God uses our worst experiences to change us for the better. In our weakness we find true strength. So I believe the most important message this fantastic book shares is to accept ourselves with Real love and then we can give that healing love to others, and in doing so, change the world for the better. This story wasn’t afraid of tackling tough subjects and really makes the reader think about the injustice of slavery and sexual slavery. It allows the reader to think about not just killing the villain that inflicts these crimes against humanity but allowing true justice without hurting the innocent surrounding the crime. If I had ten stars I would give it to this book.

This was good until it wasn’t

Decent enough, I guess. I finished it.

I liked the beginning part of the book but then the revenge piece just got too big. I liked the hero at first then I couldn’t condone some of his actions. Sarah was okay. My favorite character was Eliza.

I like long books but this seemed overly lengthy. The narration of the audiobook was well done and didn’t detract from the story.
