Publisher's summary

An outcast fighting for her future....

Thea Knight loves a spot of mischief. She especially loves her current mischief: masquerading as her sister, while finalizing her scheme to expose the dastardly knaves whose lies ruined her life.

Then big, bad-tempered Lord Luxborough upends her game by maneuvering her into marriage. But it's her sister’s name on the license, so the marriage won’t be valid. Thea’s idea? Keep pretending to be her sister until she can run away.

A recluse haunted by his past....

Rafe Landcross, Earl of Luxborough, has no love for mischief. Or marriage. Or people, for that matter. The last thing he wants is a wife - but if he marries, he’ll receive a large sum of much-needed money.

Then he learns that Thea Knight is using a false name. Rafe’s idea? Pretend he doesn’t know her true identity, marry her, and send her packing once the money is his.

A compelling attraction that changes their lives

But as passion ignites and secrets emerge, the mutual deception turns tricky fast. Rafe and Thea face irresistible temptations, unsettling revelations, and a countdown to the day when Thea must leave....

Fun, tender, and steamy, this Gothic-flavored historical romance tells of a fake marriage between a grumpy, scarred hero and a trickster heroine who reminds him how to play.

Right now I’m so sad!

Mia Vincy is a very engaging new author. Her heroines are so much fun. I am just sad that she only has two books out right now!

Story - 👍🏼. Narration - …. meh

I am in the minority with this it seems. I just did not like the narration. It was better when I sped it up some, but by the end of the book, her “vibraty” voice just vibrated my ears. I never want to hear her say “syllabub” ever again. But I definitely am going to make some and try it! Haha
The story was pretty fun. A fresh storyline that had many aspects untouched in the historical romance storylines. Characters were fun. I read the third in this series first, and I liked it better.

I paid $7.50 for this book, and, while I won’t return it, I definitely feel like it wasn’t worth the money spent.

Very enjoyable listen

Despite some drawbacks I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. THere were some pretty silly plot points, and I get tired of problems that result when people just don't talk to each other. In fact I often give up on books for just that reason. But the writing was good enough to keep me enjoying it despite that.

Good story, good narration

This is my second time to listen to this book and I enjoyed the book much more than when I first heard it. Mia Vincy is a new author for me and I've found her to be very talented in story-telling and in character development. In this book, the characters and the dialogue was quirky....and funny. When I first listened to this book, I totally missed that. In my second listen and after learning to appreciate Mia's style, I laughed and laughed. The story is excellent and the characters are very likeable in their quirkyness. With quirky characters, you get quirky dialogue. Kate Reading did a great job in narrating this book. The attributes that make the book so good require a narrator who can identify and pass those attributes on.

Perfect wind down book

The books in this series give me all the best girly feelings. I love how often I laughed most of all. Worth a listen.

Delighted with Mia Vincy’s written dialogue and the clever ways she brings together all the pieces of the story.

Fun listen; not as much laughter as the first

Overall, I thought this was a fun listen. Both this book and the first by Vincy were quite good: well developed characters, a bit of a sassy female lead, and redemption.

Just a head's up for anyone (like me) who chose this book after loving the first one. The first in the series made me laugh out loud. The banter between those characters left me in stitches. This book is far more serious than the first. There's far less teasing and a good deal more angst.

First time listener.

At first it was hard for me to listen to someone read a story to me because I have always read to myself. I thought the person's voice, who was reading out loud; didn't really mesh together with the storyline but I was dead wrong after the first two sentences. she brought the story and characters alive! Making me want to listen to the next chapter and another afterwards. I will definitely recommend this story and reader to my family and friends!!! Now that am done with this book, am off to start another adventure else where; and hopefully this reader will be there to help me bring that new story to life.
