Extremely motivating, but poorly produced

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend that any friend purchase the paper book rather than the audio version. The information in here is well presented and I like a lot of Dr. Fiore's insights, but the production itself needs improvement. While articulate, Dr. Fiore's pace of speech is extremely slow and awkward. I'm listening to it at 1.5x speed and finding it much more usable.

How could the performance have been better?

Dr. Fiore should have hired a professional to read the book. I can certainly understand his desire to keep the product his own, but it makes engagement with the material more difficult. That is a shame because I think there are a lot of valuable lessons.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It has made me more motivated. I chose to make an un-schedule immediately after reading about it and have found a lot of joy in doing so.

Excellent Read!

Very helpful and enlightening. I actually liked the slow reading pace of the narrator as it gives time for the material to sink in.

Highly recommended!

Really good sound and practical advice

What made the experience of listening to The Now Habit the most enjoyable?

The substance of the advice

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Now Habit?

The Unschedule - already doing it!

Any additional comments?

The performance had a few flaws - a bit slow, some repeat errors that could have been fixed with editing, but it was a very authentic author's read, undoubtedly.

A "How-to" for thinking about your work

What made the experience of listening to The Now Habit the most enjoyable?

Fiore offers compelling insights into the way procrastination is rooted in our deepest fears, and those closed off places inside ourselves we often don't acknowledge. You'll find yourself wandering off in thought about your own ideas about work and some of the reasons you might procrastinate. If I were reading a hard copy of the book, this would be the kind of book that I'd frequently have to put down to think, so I would definitely recommend listening to more than once.

What other book might you compare The Now Habit to and why?

This book reminds me of The 7 Secrets of the Prolific: The Definitive Guide to Overcoming Procrastination, Perfectionism, and Writer's Block by Hillary Rettig because of both implore you to think about your reasons for procrastination rather than give you a prefabricated system to follow (think Getting Things Done by David Allen).

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Neil Fiore?

Anyone would've been better. He had a weird cadence and throughout the performances sentences seemed to break up in weird places.

Narrator

Hard to concentrate with the narrator; reminds me of boredom. Defeats the purpose of the audio book.

Powerful Content Read Very Poorly at The Beginning

What did you love best about The Now Habit?

The strategies provided by Dr. Fiore empower those who wish to be empowered.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Neil Fiore since he provides a great program to defeat procrastination from its very roots.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

While I do love the fact that I am hearing the story from the author himself, the beginning of this audio book is very stressful due to poor audio recording.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Now Habit?

Overcomming procrastination with viable tools provided by Dr. Fiore.

Any additional comments?

Great book with very poor initial narration. I do highly recommend this book, however I warn you that you will feel tortured by the breathing and initial pace of Dr. Fiore's narration. It gets much better by chapter 2 and gets even better beyond chapter 4 til the end. The important thing is to not give up. The book is great if you give it a chance. The tools provided are quite powerful. If Audible has the chance to ask Dr. Fiore to re-record chapter 1 it would put the icing on the cake.
