My 1000 sq ft home doesn't have a garage or outside storage - just two closets and a small kitchen. It doesn't take much for my place to be a bit cluttered. I can walk through the house with no huge piles. I want to know where my stuff is and go directly to it. Thus, I downloaded this book.
The female narrator reads this book in a neutral tone - and that is what I needed to help me understand just how much stuff I truly need. Nobody getting on me to clean up. I have those voices in my head and that is enough! After listening to the categories - I have come to realize that I am a moderate saver with cluttering tendencies, not a candidate for the show. Whew! Though I knew that.....
I have been going through my closets and am looking at 4 sweatshirts -- I only need two. Ditto with other multiples of clothing, etc. Old coffee cups, extra workout jackets - gone. So far, two trips to Goodwill and a third one brewing.
This book helped me understand that I will come across deals all the time at the store and just buy what I need for now. Getting your house straight and your stuff organized will take a bit of time. This book gently tells you how to attack it . What you gain in the end -- more time --because you aren't looking for something. You now know where it is. Ahh, nirvana, I will see you soon.
I really enjoyed this book. My New Year's resolution is to reduce the clutter in my home, so I listened to this book to help motivate me and see if it could offer some tips to make the process less painful. De-cluttering is still unpleasant, but I did find some excellent tips and suggestions in this book to help ease the process. The narration was good. Cassandra's voice is pleasant and was a pleasure to listen to.
I listened to this audiobook twice because I wanted to reinforce some of the underlying concepts. This book explores the underlying stories behind some serious hoarders, which gives non-hoarders a glimpse of some of their own tendencies.
You just might find that you share some of the same issues that are the root of a serious hoarder, and you can learn how to clear your mind as you clear your environment. If nothing else, you will be fascinated by the psychology behind the mess.
The first half of this book is extensive descriptions of people and their problems. I have yet to find any useful information - how to's, steps to unclutter, etc. This book seems to be written for therapists. It is basically useless and the title is very misleading.
Good advice for all of us to limit clutter or try to get rid of it.
