Techniques and habits discussed in the book in combination with stories to illustrate the application of the techniques have great application in today's society. Many of us are very stressed over what is happening in our lives and seem to be overwhelming at the time--and at that time, it probably is. Life is filled with many, many instances/occurrences which cause us to get stressed, be it related to work, family, money, really anything. R. Carlson discusses techniques to change perspective. In November 2005, there was a 3-day period I was continually reflecting over a great monetary loss. I had not slept much over that period. Some time was spent during the 3rd day listening to 'Don't Sweat the Small Stuff...,' I heard just one technique and in a moment my perspective changed; instantly, the pressure I felt in my chest from the stress caused by my loss vanished and I felt great peace.
Life my not be easy, but, we don't need to be stressed out over everything.
Great listen/read, well worth the investment.
I found this book very helpful for my everyday living. It is simple and to the point psychology. I listen to it at work and whenever I feel stressed. What I like best about this one, is that it is read by the author himself, and he is a very very clear speaker and has soothing tone to his voice. I recommend this to anyone who wants to hear a few simple tips to help cope with life. I only wish I could put to practice at least 25% of what Dr. Richardson suggests.
I love this book! I keep it on my Otis and when the stresses of daily life start getting to me I simply sit down and listen to it for 5 minutes. It really helps you to put things into perspective!
I really like how this is done. Unlike other audio downloads, a separate voice announces each new section. Carlson is a very good speaker and his diction is very clear. The concept behind the book is to learn how to not sweat the small stuff in numerous different settings, and it is well done. By the time I finished the book, I had calmed immensely. Well worth the money and time.
Richard Carlson's soothing tone of voice and knowing that life can be taken one day at a time.
Yes,this book is a stress reliever.
This book was giving to me in print form first. I loved it so much that I had to buy it on audio. I love the in your face perspective. I live by this perspective. This has helped me with making decisions with my magazine and my photographer career.
God Bless Richard Carlson, Ph. D.
Every chapter in this book touched on something in my life and helped bring peace into my life. It helped me deal with situations in a more pleasant way, and most of all, how to let things go. I began to see things in a new light and it took a heavy weight off of my shoulders. I began feeling an inner peace. I had to give it as a gift to many of my friends, who also felt the same feelings after reading it; that is how wonderful this book is!
There's a way to be both successful and stress-free. Richard Carlson shows the aspects of our lives which load stress and also ways to prevent them. Highly recommended.
I've read a few books on psychology, behaviour and relationships in the past and I have a degree in Psychology. I've heard good things about Don't Sweat the Small Stuff off tv but no recommendations from people who've bought it (now I know why!). It was in the Audible Sale and I thought I'd give it a go. I'm quite a stressed person and thought this might teach me some techniques to manage my stress. I was looking forward to it as other reviews made out it was life changing. It's narrated by the author and he does an ok job, very American upbeat style but then he is an American and it's a self help book so no surprises there. The book is only 4 hours so you're done with it pretty quickly that is either a positive or a negative depending on how you look at it ;) Some of the strategies were interesting but nothing ground breaking and you've probably already thought of most of them, in essence the techniques were just repeated ways of driving home the message of "relax and be grateful for what you've got". You'd probably get more use out of going to a yoga class or getting a massage so don't bother downloading it as it hardy has an impact at all and certainly isn't life changing. If you want an interesting book on behaviour and relationships which really will change your perspective then read 'Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps" by Allan and Barbara Pease (sadly not available on Audible).
Should be included in everyone's life Philosophy!! Great to listen to and worth every penny
"Occasional good advice drowned in pointless ones"
This book has a few gems, but it is not worth reading the whole thing to find those gems. You can live a good life without this book. Also, I found it annoying that the same advice was re-used over and over again, just dressed up in slightly different wordings.
"So simple yet so effective."
This book is life changing. Buy it!
