Publisher's summary

In 1994, Driven to Distraction sparked a revolution in our understanding of attention deficit disorder. Now a second revolution is under way in the approach to ADD, and the news is great. Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated. In this new book, Drs. Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey build on the breakthroughs of Driven to Distraction to offer a comprehensive and entirely up-to-date guide to living a successful life with ADD.

As Hallowell and Ratey point out, "attention deficit disorder" is a highly misleading description of an intriguing kind of mind. Original, charismatic, energetic, often brilliant, people with ADD have extraordinary talents and gifts embedded in their highly charged but easily distracted minds. Tailored expressly to ADD learning styles and attention spans, Delivered from Distraction provides accessible, engaging discussions of every aspect of the condition, from diagnosis to finding the proper treatment regime. Inside you'll discover:

  • whether ADD runs in families
  • the links between ADD and other conditions
  • how people with ADD can free up their inner talents and strengths
  • the new drugs and how they work, and why they're not for everyone
  • sexual problems associated with ADD and how to resolve them
  • strategies for dealing with procrastination, clutter, and chronic forgetfulness

ADD is a trait, it only becomes a disorder when it impairs your life. Featuring gripping profiles of patients with ADD who have triumphed, Delivered from Distraction is a wise, loving guide to releasing the positive energy that all people with ADD hold inside. If you have ADD or care about someone who does, this is the book you must read.

Simply Amazing

If you have ADD, or someone significant in your life does, this is a must read. Full of great information, more resources, and practical tips. I have never been more empowered to use my ADD super powers, or more thankful of my wife for dealing with my quirks.

I have ADD

I have ADD, obviously whole life. First I’ve heard driven to distraction and now delivered from distraction. I’ve cried listening to first book and most likely with second one too. As distractive I’m mostly zoned out while listening and noticed variety of feelings raging through my mind and body while narrator talked about things I know rather very very well. Book is source of further books or websites and insights I will follow. Thank you dr Hallowell and Ratey very much for such a great source of information. Understanding. And that you spent your time to research and wrote such a great book.

Very Informative

There is a great deal of usable information in this book, yet it is accessible to non-experts and written in a very conversational, readable style.

Excellent Book on ADD

This book is awesome!
Hallowell gives fun and useful strategies for dealing with child and adult Attention Deficit Disorder.

I read his first book, Driven to Distraction, in the 90's and am quite impressed with the new strategies and 'improved' or updated philosophies and methods of dealing with ADD.

An audiobook is a much easier way for ADD'ers to get through a book like this! Listening in LA traffic has been great.

The book is full of examples of actual patients as well as some in depth stories of successful adults with ADD.

The new thrust of dealing with ADD (in addition to outer structure, exercise, nutrition, medication, etc) is Emphasising the Strengths and Talents of the individual with ADD and the 'play cycle.'

This is a very EMPOWERING AUDIOBOOK FOR THOSE WITH ADD AND THEIR PARENTS OR FAMILIES.
I have ADD and my wife didn't want to listen at first, but I got her take the questionaire with me. Upon finishing the test, she had new understanding and compassion for my ADD.

It includes some self-diagnostic questionaires and Hallowell makes good use of humor.

Well narrated.

A Wonderful way to look at ADD

This is a wonderful way to be introduced to a unique way of being! It focuses on the positive aspects of having ADD. The information provided to people who are new to or dealing with a loved one with ADD is very clear and informative. And the ideas to help manage the condition are right on target. If you have ADD buy it and read the first part to find out how to use the book to help you. If someone you know has ADD buy it and read it, so you can understand what they are dealing with and how to best work with them and not against them.

A must book for we ADD in our lives

great information and perspective! Very well read, so much so that I imagined it was being read by the author. I've already ordered the book to have easy access to the details. unfortunately Audible has split the chapters randomly and not according to the actual chapter content of the book. I've initiated conversation with the author in the hope that we can correct that. Having direct access to parts of the material would be very very valuable, including enabling going back and forth between print and audio or ebook and audio.
