I love the accent. His voice is very comforting. I also agree that Audible ruined the sleep cycle by their ending. I also wake up startled to the ending Audible message. Take that out and I'd give it 5 stars.
I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who has wished for help getting to sleep. I have used many meditation and self-hypnosis tapes over the past 15 years with varying degrees of success.
I have certainly not expected anything new and outstanding to come along. But then I kept coming across rave reviews for Glenn Harrold who wrote and recorded this tape. I gave in to hope and purchased it and....it works!
He uses a totally different technique than the others I have heard. Please do use ear phones if you can because you will hear all of the different suggestions and different tones that he combines. He overlays his sentences with other sentences at times. You will see what I mean if you get this. And the music is so easy and unintrusive. His voice is perfect for this kind of tape.
If you have as much trouble as I do sleeping then you will understand my enthusiasm for this. I hope you have the same great results that I have had! Best wishes.
I've used other self-hypnosis relaxation and sleep programs. Like the others, Glenn Harrold's "Deep Sleep Every Night" doesn't seem like it's hypnotizing you when you first listen to it. But, keep using it for a few nights and you will see that each night it takes you off to dreamland more quickly. Pretty soon, you just hear the "one, two, three" and you're gone. Just don't expect miracles on the first listen.
The audio is great and I fall to sleep which is really nice. I am woken up, however, by the Audible.com message at the end therefore defeating the purpose!
I've always had trouble sleeping. Once I started to listen to this I immediately slept better than I had in years. The voice and the music is quite relaxing. I'd definately recommend!
This was the first "hypnosis" audio book I purchased, and I absolutely love it. I fall asleep each and every time I listen to it, and I actually look forward to bedtime now because I know I'll fall asleep quickly. The only complaint I have is the same as a previous reviewers: Audible's own "You've been listening to Audible" at the end of the recording wakes me up every night. Yes, I fall asleep again quickly, but it seems terribly irresponsible of them to mess with a sleep title. I wish I could edit their announcement out.
As with most human behavior, the key to successful change lies in changing the way one thinks. With "Deep Sleep Every Night" I have been able to 1) start going to bed earlier (and feeling good about it); 2) sleep through the night without waking; and 3) start remembering my dreams again. The hyponsis is more like guided mediation, and the instructions and suggestions are ethical and "as advertised." The affect of the hyponsis is to allow "new" thinking to replace ineffectual ideas and self-talk. The information leads to ideas which lead to emotions which lead to beliefs and moves from unconscious to conscious with the behavior change. As with any successful behavior change, the nightly effectiveness and long-term success are entirely up to me. I anticipate that in three weeks I will only need to listen to this on nights of heavy stress. I was a little disappointed with the audio quality, but I have not had a chance to listen to it on headphones as suggested, which I suspect would be even more powerful. I have already started listening to another of his titles and will be buying at least two more within the month.
This audio tape does a great job of putting me to sleep every night. I notice a difference each night when I use it and when I don't. Whenever I am really stressed out, this tape puts me to sleep before I even get half way through.
This disc has spread from my family to everyone I know. We all use it every night, kids from age one to my eighty year old grandmother, and we are all sleeping great every night.
He is in what sounds like an auditorium. At first I thought, This is gonna make me sleep??
But he engages the mind, and the high-quality recording makes him impossible to ignore, and easy to follow. He offers messages that are interesting, and relaxing.
I?m glad I got this recording.
One caveat ... *he* doesn?t do anything to you. There is no magic or miracle in any hypnotic recording, if you don?t engage yourself with it, and believe.
"I can't stay awake till the end!"
I've tried a few relaxation tapes but none of them have helped me sleep as well as this one. I have been using it for a few weeks and only once have I not drifted off during it.
A lot of relaxation tapes ask you to lie on your back and progressively relax your body. I find that I tense up with those kinds of tapes rather than relax. This one doesn't do that, which I like.
It seems like I don't have to 'do' anything, or concentrate on anything (he gives my mind permission to wander) and that makes it easier to relax.
The music also helps the relaxation as it gradually slows my breathing down.
If you are looking for something to help you sleep, this is definately worth a try.
This title is in two parts, part one helps you sleep and part two is intended to produce lucid dreaming. The concept of lucid dreaming is that the dreamer is aware of dreaming and can, theoretically, change the course and the outcome of the dream. This is particulary useful if you suffer from nightmares or night terrors.
I have been listening to this title almost every night since I purchased it and find that it does the trick for me. I either drift off to sleep listening, or more usually, fall asleep after listening. I would certainly recommend this rather than sleeping pills to help develop good sleep hygiene.
The lucid dreaming technique in part two might not appeal to some but as I am interested in this technique, I find it very useful.
To summarise, if you are not interested in lucid dreaming you may be better with a title that concentrates soley on deep sleep.
Due to a variety of recent life events my stress and anxiety levels are high resulting in a poor sleep pattern. The lack of sleep was impacting greatly on my work performance and my ability to manage the stressful situations in my life. This CD (downloaded to my ipod) has helped enormously and using it guarantees me a good nights sleep every night. I always start with chapter one and rarely make it to chapter two! Using the CD has inproved both the quality and duration of my sleep and it is now my alarm clock that wakes me - gone are nights of wakefulness.Having tried a various other self-help relaxation CD's, with little success, this is the one that works for me. I have no hesitation in recommending this CD and hope it works for you!

I am a nervous flyer and bought this to help me sleep on a 8hr flight. I was deeply motivated and followed the instructions - passing out within 10 mins according toy husband.
Listening at home is a different matter. Some nights I'm really not ready for Glen's sonorous, deep but rather unsubtle GO TO SLEEP messages (it really is like that). I feel like a naughty 8 yr old with a parent wagging their finger at me. Some nights it's great and very relaxing. I am learning though that getting to sleep does require your head to be in the right place. You can't just lie down and expect to drift off. Well I can't anyway.
The first track I have found generally helpful. The second is guided visualisation involving an enormous house with a beautiful garden that has .... NO POLLEN intones Glen emphatically. This makes me giggle without fail every time. I'm sure if I suffered from hay fever then I would sigh with pleasure and drift into a deeper state of relaxation, but I don't. So I can't get through this one. Why may I ask, is it always a house and garden? Hmmm??
I saved a fortune on herbal sleeping tablets when I invested in this title. Its seemingly quite a basic production compared with other Glen Harold cds but it really works for me.
I still wake in the night but get back to sleep within minutes by breathing deeply and repeating his "go to sleep" mantra to myself.

All I can say really is that it works for me. When travelling and dealing with jet lag or having a head full of "stuff" I find that listening to this helps me to focus on just the book and so clear away the noise in my head. Getting this quietness in my mind then allows me to sleep. I am not sure I have ever managed to listen to the whole book yet. But I guess that is the whole point

When I have put this audible book on before I sleep I generally am much more motivated the next day. I would recommend along side listening to this book you keep a log of your current sleeping habits so that you can compare the results yourself! Ultimately if you don't try it you'll never know if it will work for you.
I was sceptical of meditation and how it worked but after listening to Glenn I'm a germ believer.
