Publisher's summary

For fans of Small Spaces and the Goosebumps series by R. L. Stine comes a chilling ghost story based on real Chicago history about a malevolent spirit, an unlucky girl, and a haunting mystery that will tie the two together.

Claire has absolutely no interest in the paranormal. She's a scientist, which is why she can't think of anything worse than having to help out her dad on one of his ghost-themed Chicago bus tours. She thinks she's made it through when she sees a boy with a sad face and dark eyes at the back of the bus. There's something off about his presence, especially because when she checks at the end of the tour...he's gone.

Claire tries to brush it off, she must be imagining things, letting her dad's ghost stories get the best of her. But then the scratching starts. Voices whisper to her in the dark. The number 396 appears everywhere she turns. And the boy with the dark eyes starts following her.

Claire is being haunted. The boy from the bus wants something...and Claire needs to find out what before it's too late.

Hunt for Scritch Scratch

I really liked this book. I was trying to find this at libraries for my 5th grade grandson but there was a long wait for it so we bought it for him thru Amazon. I have Audible so I listened to it to know what he was reading. I do love a good mystery with history and ghosts. So even at 69 I enjoyed this. I recommend it to all ages.

Great kid read

A really good book for kids. Good pacing ( not much dead space) We almost gave up on this book because we didn’t much care for the characters in the beginning. Glad we didn’t ! It ended well & unexpected. Left us all surprised & talking about it for awhile . Kids loved it !

Sadly though, me and my mom tried to listen to it again, but it didn’t work. But the book was nice.

Terrific Narration!

I could only get through the first third of this novel. Don't get me wrong, Currie is an excellent YA writer with a natural sense of dialogue, characters, etc. However, it becomes just too unrealistic and annoying that her protagonist repetitively refuses to confide in her supportive, loving, ghost-hunting father about the ghost that haunts her, even when sheer terror pushes her to the brink of self-implosion from being haunted by a ghost... that HE hooked her up with! And when her parents constantly ask her what's wrong, and she continually makes up bizarre excuses for her hallucinatory meltdowns, they blithely except her weak assurances that everything is juusst fine. But as far as I can tell this is the novel's only flaw. All other aspects of this story are first-rate. Which makes me wonder, where was her editor? (If such things still exist in this self-publishing age.) Keep going Ms. Currie, you have a formidable talent. Oh, and did I mention that Jesse Vilinsky is a superlative voice actor?

Good Story.

I liked the fictional mystery part of this tale and found the lesson of Chicago History fascinating that I started researching the incident. Learned something new and sad about Chicago. Very good book.

really wanted to like this

Could not finish. The lead character whines, cries, screams without pause. I intensly disliked her. The premise of the story, the small history on Chicago did have me interested. But I couldn’t take more of the character.
