    "Good, but lacking"

While still a good read, Haven lacked the intrigue, excitement, and pace of Aurora. Everything is a struggle for survival and after a while you become some what bored with the experience. The book also becomes slightly predictable. I would still recommend this book though as certain parts are integral in the rest of the series.

"Adding Ryk Brown to my list of authors"

This is book number two in the Frontier Saga. The Aurora and crew are stranded halfway across the galaxy. From the battles in book one, both ship and crew are badly wounded. They arrange to mine the Rings of Haven with a rental crew, harvester and factory ships, to make money to buy food and ship parts. While some of the key people are on the planet arranging for food, the Ta’Akar warship finds them and is attempting to capture or kill those on the planet and also capture the Aurora.

The book is well written. Brown is continuing to develop the characters in this book. The action is great and the suspense builds throughout the story. The pilot of the harvester ship is not only a great pilot but a real daredevil character that will add excitement to the story. New people are added to the ship that is running short handed. I am looking forward to the next episode. Jeffrey Kafer does a great job narrating the story.

Much to short for the money. I feel the first and second book should have been one book.

"Second in the Series, Just as Good!"

After enjoying the first book in this series, I immediately purchased the second knowing there were a total of 13 additional books waiting to be enjoyed if the writing and narration continued within the high bar set in the first book. I am pleased to say the story and narration have grown beyond the first book and give me confidence in the rest of the series. While admittedly a bit short at just under 6 hours, this book is well worth your time as there is as much action filled within this 6 hours as other books take 10 hours to present.

I haven't enjoyed a series like this since reading The Lost Fleet and look forward to continuing the story with the rest of the series.

    "Part 2"

Seems short even though just shy of 7 hours it seems shorter than that, but it only seems shorter because it moves. I enjoyed the information building anticipation and a great way to introduce new characters that I can only assume will be replacing those key spots that are needed after the tremendous amount of luck this crew has run into. I also like the way the crew really pulls together in the face of death. Can't wait to read the rest. Lots of potential. Slightly irked by the price to length ratio but believe, in the end, it's worth it!

THAT NUT IS THE ONLY HOPE WE GOT RIGHT NOW
The trilogy and the Series are the worst things that can happen to a good writer. In stead of taking the effort to make each book a good read on it's own, each book (except the first) is just another chapter. This whole book could have been edited down to two chapters in a whole book. No space battles in this, just a couple of firefights. No conflict between characters, everybody just gets along. Haven is just the planet of the week.

"Very short and uneventful for the price."

I bought the first book despite it's short length and enjoyed it. It wasn't something new, but it was entertaining. I passed on getting book 2 a number of times due to it's cost vs length but eventually decided to give it a go. I regret that decision.

These first 2 books honestly feel like part of a longer book that was split up to make more money. Practically nothing is accomplished in this book. I would rank this among the least satisfying Audible purchases (the site currently tells me I'm at 749 titles) I have made to date.

With so many great alternatives in this genre, I can't justify spending the money to risk another lack luster entry in this series. I can't imagine how it managed to get such high ratings. Book 4 in the Odyssey One series by Evan Currie comes out in a few weeks, I'll just wait for that.

considering there are many more books to the series, this and the first book would have been better together.

"Reasonable book, just short and boring"
What did you like best about The Rings of Haven? What did you like least?

Least: well too short, I get the impression that this guy is ripping readers off by having a short book for the same price and the story line is very weak, do some shopping in a supermarket then go to the farm to buy in bulk. Buy the series but this one is short to make money for an author who couldn't be bothered to write a good story. Not impressed.

If you’ve listened to books by Ryk Brown before, how does this one compare?

    One of the weak ones

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

Yes it is OK. No problems there

Was The Rings of Haven worth the listening time?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Just a very weak storyline and really there were many times when the story was repeated. I think he ran out of ideas and wanted to produce a series of books to make lots of money. Disappointed.

As with Book 1, Aurora, this is a pleasant to listen to soap opera that glides through space, as long as you do not expect too much.

"Pretty good, but feels like filler material."

A very short installment that only serves to bridge the first book (which establishes characters, setting, etc) with what I hope is a more engaging third book.

It was pleasant enough to listen to, but I wouldn't have missed any thing from reading a 1000 word summary.
The first book held up much better as a stand alone story, even if the ending is a complete tease.

The narrator isn't great; his natural accent is very noticeable in all characters. Given that most of the characters are meant to be from different places with different accents it detracts from the immersion to have them all sound like they grew up on the same block. Except for the cliché Russian accent; that sounds... different.

    "Abrupt ending but still fun."

The first novel ended at a fairly logical point but this one feels like they reached an end of a chapter and said that's enough for now. In fact I have just finished the third book and it really feels like it was cut into two pieces. This also feels true with the comparatively short running times of both novels.

Having said that it is the continuation of the struggles of our intrepid band of voyagers trying to get home. And is a pleasant listen with action that keeps you interested and characters you want to learn more about. Some of the plotting is over broad and you can see events coming well in advance but the author has been able to put in a few twists and surprises to keep it interesting. The main thing is that the story moves along and is not full of filler or verbal excesses.

Other than being half a novel this I recommend this one.

Would you listen to The Rings of Haven again? Why?

i would listen to this again because although the story is easy to follow, there is so much depth to the story some of the details may be missed.
