Publisher's summary
"It started out with a bang and just got better." -Goodreads reviewer
Over 1,000 pages of nonstop action! If there's one thing Adam Eckhart knows, it's that humans are trouble. After all, he is one.
As captain of the Marathon, a cobbled-together ship crewed by aliens and androids scraping by on odd jobs at the outskirts of settled space, Adam has plenty to worry about without adding his own species to the mix.
But when a pair of mortally wounded humans cross his path during a heist gone wrong, he finds himself compelled to save them.
Big mistake.
Because if there's one more thing Adam knows, it's that the universe never leaves a good deed unpunished.
He and his crew are about to find out just how right he is.
Includes the first 5 books in the Marathon series:
- Bad Cargo
- Hidden World
- Trapped
- Lost Star
- War Dead
Five star reviews for Bad Cargo, book 1 in the series:
"I absolutely couldn’t put the book down. Full of action, suspense, intrigue, drama and deceit throughout the the story!"
"Quick and to the action straight away. Reminds me of the stories in the old pulp sci-fi magazines."
"When I’m ready to read for pure escape and entertainment, I’m happy to know that Mr. Young will have another book or series ready for me!"

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

An attitude? Why not? After all, what would you do if you were abducted by aliens and transported into a strange new universe away from your home, your family - everything familiar to you? Would it make you happy? Not likely! Now imagine you're stronger, faster, and more coordinated than every alien species you encounter. Would you start kicking some ass? Of course you would! This is the story of human superiority in the galaxy, a gritty, realistic profile of a young Navy SEAL who doesn't like aliens very much - and he makes them pay for the bad mood he's in.

The Rock Project has been studying a strange rock sphere that was uncovered hundreds of years ago. The Project has been going on for more than a hundred years at M.I.T. and there's been no breakthrough or progress to take place on finding out just what the Rock might be or why it emits energy. The project is basically a dead-end unit and only misfits and problematic sailors have been ...

the flat voice of the A,I, narrator.
over all good book, I enjoyed the book collection! but the voice of the A,I, narration was a little lacking in excitement or even emotional transition... but with that said, over all it was good. worth the time.

Excellent narration
I hated the ending, other than that, an overall good sci-fi story. I liked the assorted aliens 😊

Good story
This was a very good story and I listened with interest because this was my first Virtual Voice narration.
The narration was clear and crisp but uninspired. There was little attempt to change voices with characters which for me helps to follow the story easier. If we are going o us this type of AI, then please give it better examples and instructions.

Virtual Voice Narator
I really liked the story. The problem is I hate mispronounced words. They totally throw my mind out if the story. This is gonna be my 1st and last Virtual Voice Narated book. Usually a human Narator will mispronounce one maybe 2 words. This Virtual Narator is terrible it's a better voice than having a Monotone Narator but, there's no inflection no meaning behind the words. Plus I've counted 5 words mispronounced and I'm not done with the last book yet.

Good story
I like the story, but I did not like the virtual voice. The virtual voice lacked finer human cadence.

The story is good but
I ended giving up on listening to this book, and opted to just read the series. The story and characters are fun, but there were enough acting errors in the narration to drive me nuts.

Intolerable AI reading. A disgrace.
Passable storyline read by AI. Overall a disaster. The AI reads like a badly dubbed 1960’s Japanese monster movie.
And, the added benefit, an actor or other voiceover professional didn’t get work.
It cannot be listened to. You may tolerate it for the first hour or two, but trust me, it will make your ears bleed.

AI narration
Virtual narration is flat and lacks human emotion in the voice. It ruins the story. The voice has inflection but it is missing something.
