Publisher's summary

Accountant turned professional monster hunter Owen Zastava Pitt managed to stop the nefarious Old Ones' invasion plans last year, but as a result made an enemy out of one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Now an evil death cult known as the Church of the Temporary Mortal Condition wants to capture Owen in order to gain the favor of the great Old Ones. The Condition is led by a fanatical necromancer known as the Shadow Man. The government wants to capture the Shadow Man and has assigned the enigmatic Agent Franks to be Owen's full-time bodyguard, which is a polite way of saying that Owen is monster bait.

With supernatural assassins targeting his family, a spy in their midst, and horrific beasties lurking around every corner, Owen and the staff of Monster Hunter International don't need to go hunting, because this time the monsters are hunting them. Fortunately, this bait is armed and very dangerous.

"This lighthearted, testosterone-soaked sequel to 2009's Monster Hunter International will delight fans of action horror with elaborate weaponry, hand-to-hand combat, disgusting monsters, and an endless stream of blood and body parts." ( Publishers Weekly)

Another Successful Adventure

I can only suggest that you read every book this author has written. His works meet the perfect definition of entertainment. While I wish there was less vulgarity, for it limits the people I can recommend it to, I still love the stories.

A good read. Fun series.

More action movie-esque fun from MHI. There is a great fight with a group of gargoyles that was a lot of fun. This is a great book to put between some of your more grim novels. Lightens the mood.

Book 2 a Little Slow

I enjoyed this book but it was a little slow and predictable at times. Narration was great.

More fun from our favourite dysfunctional meathead

Monster Hunter is an interesting series, given how unlovely the main protagonist is. He's a dysfunctional, anti-authoritarian manchild with staggering anger management issues and an inability to see nuance in any situation.

Having said that, the series still works because the supporting characters are excellent - well fleshed out and interesting. The story line holds your attention throughout, and Oliver Wyman is one of the best narrators on Audible.

Ignore the main character's many shortcomings, and this is a series which rewards 😀

Monsters! Violence! General all-around Asskickery!

I throughly enjoy all of the books I have listened to by Larry and this one does not disappoint. I would recommend this book if you enjoy the supernatural/syfy genre.

Refreshing but ridiculous

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to a friend because of what a fantastic job Oliver Wyman does to get you sucked in. I would recommend, but you can't go into this book and take it 100% serious.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I wouldn't change anything, it's refreshing to me. I enjoy the way it's written, it paints a clear visual in your head and it's very easy to follow. On that note I rated it 4/5 because it's such a cheesy story, but it's still very enjoyable.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oliver does a fantastic job of giving you a clear idea of what is going on. He seems patient and is very clear in delivering the story. I never felt like I needed to rewind because I felt like I missed anything. Oliver complimented the story telling very well.

Did Monster Hunter Vendetta inspire you to do anything?

There's not much it can inspire you to do I suppose haha.

Any additional comments?

This book is truly wonderful and refreshing. It's not a serious and dark audiobook, it's like a cheesy movie you can't help but sit back and enjoy. There is out there moments that make me wonder what the author was thinking. This kind of story that such high profile attacks like a horde of zombies attacking a crowded resort and yet... Still they're unheard of? I find it insane, but it's something that I have enjoyed listening to.

Much better than the first

After the first installation, I left the series alone for a bit. It was a decent listen, but there were some irksome things (like the droning on about weapons) that just didn't lead me to want to pick another up right away. Add to that that I didn't find the synopsis of Vendetta very interesting (it sounded like it'd be cliched and painstakingly-so). However, I'm glad I was wrong. The guns are still here, but we get more story more than the explicit explanation of each and every one weapon Owen picks up.

Second-in-series books typically aren't so hot, but so much happens in this book that it's like a coaster ride that just won't quit. We've got a mystery with twists, we've got action and we get LOTS of background info and story on many of the characters from the first book as well as the second. Owen comes more into his abilities as we see him "level up" both in "power" and influence, so it's not tedious exposition either; you actually WANT to dive more into Owen's flashbacks.

There's very little I disliked in this tale. Sometimes Owen can be slow and repetitive and there can be a LOT of characters (both good and bad) to keep track of, but it's nothing that ruined the experience for me.

Adding the next installment to my library right after I publish this review :)

Just as entertaining as MHI (Book 1)

If you could sum up Monster Hunter Vendetta in three words, what would they be?

Bring it on!

Any additional comments?

This series is why I read books! It represents the best of the genre, well written, good story line and interesting characters. Love it!
