Publisher's Summary

Accountant turned professional monster hunter Owen Zastava Pitt managed to stop the nefarious Old Ones' invasion plans last year, but as a result made an enemy out of one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Now an evil death cult known as the Church of the Temporary Mortal Condition wants to capture Owen in order to gain the favor of the great Old Ones. The Condition is led by a fanatical necromancer known as the Shadow Man. The government wants to capture the Shadow Man and has assigned the enigmatic Agent Franks to be Owen's full-time bodyguard, which is a polite way of saying that Owen is monster bait.

With supernatural assassins targeting his family, a spy in their midst, and horrific beasties lurking around every corner, Owen and the staff of Monster Hunter International don't need to go hunting, because this time the monsters are hunting them. Fortunately, this bait is armed and very dangerous.

What the Critics Say

"This lighthearted, testosterone-soaked sequel to 2009's Monster Hunter International will delight fans of action horror with elaborate weaponry, hand-to-hand combat, disgusting monsters, and an endless stream of blood and body parts." (Publishers Weekly)

"Why DO I like this book?"

By all rights, this is not a book I should enjoy. It's basically chaos and mayhem, one outrageous brawl after another. But the core story is fascinating and the narrator is absolutely terrific. You just get sucked right in to the entire experience. Definitely McDonalds for the brain, but totally enjoyable!

What did you love best about Monster Hunter Vendetta?

I listen to audio books while I work and this one really kept me entertained. No down time.

What did you like best about this story?

I've always been a monster story fan so this was right up my alley and even after already reading the first books I didn't get bored.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oliver Wyman read the story in a way where even if I wasn't fully concentrated on it 100% of the time I always knew who was talking because of his ability to adapt his voice and accent to the character as needed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was always happy to get to work partially because I wanted to get back to the story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like Die Hard movies like me, this is for you.

What other book might you compare Monster Hunter Vendetta to and why?

I read the Iron Druid chronicles before and this is a good match for it, even if I prefered the world of the Iron Druid.

    "Fast Paced and Invigorating"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is an acquired taste. Correia writes with pretty gratuitous violence, but it is done in a very light-hearted and comic fashion which makes the 'blood-and-guts' action very palatable. I would not suggest seeing a movie based on this unless you really love horror.

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

The reader really gives the characters personality as his accents and intonations are excellent in the way they are used.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Do not see this movie!

Didn't care too much for the main antagonist in this one. He was only interesting towards the end. Nothing different about the characters or flow from the first book. It was entertaining and an easy listen. Narration is great. Later.

"Cool Monsters, Guns, Ammo and explosive action"
If you could sum up Monster Hunter Vendetta in three words, what would they be?

    Explosive Fun Ride!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Earl Harbinger, He' a Take names, Kick Ass No nonsense Bad @$$! with a passion for his team and his work. I love his whit and timing.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oliver id a great job defining each character I had a great time listening to him. He breathes life into the reading that I greatly enjoyed.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed quite a bit throughout the story Larry has a great way of adding levity to the tense situations.
OH there was a part in the book where a certain village was attacked that did make me sad. I'll let you find out what happened ;-)

    Any additional comments?

Thank You Larry for a Great series and Oliver for a fantastic reading. I thought I would only say that about Jim Dale but Oliver Wyman has now been added to the list of preferred narrators I will be looking out for.

"Better than the First, An Action Rollercoaster"
Would you consider the audio edition of Monster Hunter Vendetta to be better than the print version?

I don't know that the audio is better than the print. I always liked inventing how characters sound in my head for the print version. The performer (Reader?) does a very good job "acting" each individual character.

What did you like best about this story?

Once the story gets past the premise, it doesn't stop. That takes about the first 1/3rd of the book and then it's non-stop. I never got the chance to say, "What's next?" because the book becomes a roller-coaster ride through a twisted set of events whose backdrop is a mysterious nemesis, the back story of a previous mysterious character, overall history of the series, and reader gratification of past novels. HA! NO SPOILERS!

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Book one is pretty much setup. This book begins the real story of Owen.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There's no point that really moved me. This book is an action novel, put your emotions on hold while stuff gets blown up.

    Any additional comments?

This book felt less awkward that the first book in the series, and the author just had plain fun. The book can stand on it's own. The story recap and character backgrounds are on fast-forward. I'm pretty sure the first novel only took about few minutes to explain in this book. It's just enough to remind the reader of the first novel or get past difficult questions for the new reader.

The narrator does a fantastic job of Monster Hunter. This is another fun, action story by Correia, who introduces new monsters and new characters. The story was stronger than the first book.

After the first book, "Monster Hunter International", I knew I'd be in for a treat and was not disappointed. The prequel was really good, pity ratings only go to 5 a really great monster battle of a book.

"2nd in the series that I'm 100% happy I found"

When you find a great series, you want to dig your teeth into it - the world that Larry Correia has created in these is brilliant, it's so close to the real world that it could very well exist without us knowing, add in the amazing reading by Oliver Wyman, this series just becomes astounding

The main characters are great, realistic, and are fun to learn about, along with the stories in the series being engaging - while listening the books I've broken out into grins, laughter & quite often lost in the story and almost missing my train station

With the story moving on a-pace, great characters like Franks, the superb team that support Owen the monster hunting accountant, and when you hear them being portrayed in the audio book, you can see them in your mind, and I've already cast a film (e.g. Margot Robbie for Holly), this only makes the books better & more enjoyable

If you want a really well written series, that is incredibly read, then you can't go far wrong with this book & the series - I've spread these books to friends who have spread them to family & it's gone from there, all from me finding one on here... you couldn't do that if the book & series weren't great!

Download, listen & enjoy - this series is brilliant and I can't wait for more!!!
