Publisher's summary

On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy.

Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency. The leader of a fanatical cult, obsessed with traveling beyond the reaches of known space, is bent on opening a cosmic gateway using dreaded dark matter as the key - risking a cataclysmic reaction that will consume the entire star system. But more shocking to Lanoree than even the prospect of total galactic annihilation, is the decision of her Je’daii Masters to task her with the mission of preventing it. Until a staggering revelation makes clear why she was chosen: The brilliant, dangerous madman she must track down and stop at any cost is the brother whose death she has long grieved - and whose life she must now fear.

Unsatisfying ending

Was a decent Star Wars novel, and the performance was great as per usual. The planets featured and time setting were interesting; However, it felt like few of the questions raised by the unique setting were really answered or addressed. They left a lot of future mysteries for other novels to explore, but it made this book feel pretty unsatisfying, especially the ending.

Easy listen and entertaining

Narrator was great. Extra audio and special effects sounds were a good plus. Easy listen even though the story wasn't the best. Still recommend for audiobook.

Great Tale of the first Jedi

I thought that this was a good story. It is refreshing to have the perspective of the Jedi before it devolved into the battle of Jedi vs. Sith, Light vs. Dark, Good vs. Evil. In this we get a glimpse of how the Order had its first existense. I liked that it was more from the perspective of a Grey Jedi, where it recognizes that the internal struggle is not to be All Good or All Bad, it is more of a conflict where it is not the power alone that dictates the alignment, more of the intent of the force user is taken into account.

and the conflict between siblings is one that is always a good story to see develop (when done properly)

Wish the sequels were this good!

For starters the narration and soundtrack is flawless throughout the entire story. Despite what many other reviews say I found this to be a great listen from beginning to end. The characters were well written and the setting itself was captivating. I wish there were more audio books on the Jed’aii

I loved the story and all the characters. Is there a sequel in the works!?

Great Story

The story is well written and well read. Star wars novels are, for the most part, well written. This story does not disappoint.

There is strong world building in this book.

The story is well told, and well preformed. The concept of a balanced force user appeals greatly to me, as opposed to exclusively light or exclusively dark. The world building is strong, and creates a place ripe for future stories. The weakest aspect of this book is the handling of the main character and heroin. As the story progressed it felt like the writer kept putting themselves in a corner, and the only way out was for the main character to make worse and worse choices. Watching the main character display an increasing level of incompatancy that wasn't there at the beginning was extremely frustrating. I almost decided to move on from the book because of it. But it works out in the end and all wraps up nicely.

It bad

So, maybe I'm just easily amused, but I actually liked this book. Not my favorite Star Wars book or anything, but not horrible. Storyline was fine and voice actress did a good job. Obviously, she couldn't do the male voices as well as a guy, but it wasn't off-putting to me.

Sounds like there's an epilogue or something which I'm listening to as I type.
