Critic reviews

"There is zombie fiction and then there is crawl-out-of-the-grave-and-drag-you-to-hell zombie fiction. Day by Day Armageddon is hands down the best zombie book I have ever read. Dawn of the Dead meets 28 Days Later doesn't even come close to describing how fantastic this thriller is. It is so real, so terrifying, and so well written that I slept with not one, but two loaded Glocks under my pillow for weeks afterwards. J. L. Bourne is the new king of hardcore zombie action!" I'm in the minority on this one

This is a good story line but I am just not a fan of "diary" based books. That being said I really enjoyed the performance by Jay Snyder and I did connect with the characters. Overall a good listen.

Couldn't stop listening

This is the best zombie book ever. It is non stop action and excitement. I simply could not stop listening, and as soon as I'd finish DBDA1 I downloaded the sequal. Great Fun!

Jay Snyder kept me listening

This book received many 4 and 5 star reviews and maybe justly so before the hit TV series The Walking Dead. I felt like the diary entry format gave the story a lack of intensity that a story about attacking zombies should have. Overall, the story was nothing special. Not a recommendation from me on the this one.

Meh. Was ok.

I didn't care for the narrator. I think the story may have been a lot better with a more enthusiastic narrator., he was just too "plastic." Just my two cents. The story was okay, but I won't be continuing the series.

It was OK

While my opinion will be in the minority, I was not impressed by this book. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't all that great.

It is very much your typical zombie story told via a daily journal. Specific details in some cases are extreme which leads you to believe the author has a lot of expertise in these areas. This at times adds a level of realism that is potentially refreshing. In some ways this is almost a how to survive book.

Maybe because it is a diary or as the main character notes, he has become emotionless but the story is very dry. Except for maybe two or three points there is never any real emotion displayed. Conversations tend to also be very dry.

Additionally there are a lot of things that occur in the story that just have you scratch your head. Why does he need a plane? I would give other examples but I don't want to spoil. Maybe a lot of this gets explained in the second book.

I gave the performance five stars in spite of the lack of emotion because I have a strong feeling that is how it is on the page. It comes across as very competent and clear.

Overall I thought the book was OK and may one day get the second, but as audible books go and zombie books in particular this one did not stand out.

Addicting

Enjoyed every minute of this book. Was too short however and ended abruptly. Would not have bought if there wasn't a sequel.

I want to know what happens next!

Really engaging and interesting story. I feel like the characters were well developed and I want to know what happens next in the story! The narrator did a great job and I will def be picking up the next book in the series.

Loved the first two

I have listen to the first 2 book 5 or 6 times. I just love then, the emotions and fear he puts into the character is amazing. I have listen to many zombie books, but still my favorite. I never went on with the series cause he stop the journal format and the reviews are not so good. I don't want to ruin the series like that.

not bad.

the narrator is a bit monotone, and some of the military details are a bit off.
