Publisher's summary

Book seven in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

Saint Sabbat has returned, and she is being hunted by the deadliest of assassins. Gaunt's Ghosts must fight to protect her - but can they defend against treachery from within?

Listen to it because...it's the culmination of a massive story arc that sees tragedy strike even as the Sabbat Worlds Crusade is given new hope with the reappearance of the Saint herself. Mysticism and warfare collide, with compelling results.

The story: with the future of the Sabbat Worlds campaign balanced on a knife edge, new hope arises in the form of Saint Sabbat herself, reincarnated to lead the Imperium to victory against the dark forces of Chaos. The living saint calls for Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and the Tanith First to be her guardians. Doubting that she is who she claims, Gaunt must discover the truth while fending off enemy troops and lethal assassins. But treachery within the Ghosts will not only threaten the mission, but rip the Tanith asunder.

Written by Dan Abnett, narrated by Toby Longworth.

A masterpiece.

This is a masterpiece of hard sci-fi. A masterpiece of war novels. A masterpiece of Warhammer 40k lore.
Abnett and Longworth do it again.

It's a solid addition to the series!

Toby Longworth really brings the story to life, and Dan Abnett really nails the sense of stacked odds in this one, 10/10 I recommend.

This book is one heck of an emotional roller-coaster! I literally caught myself laughing and cheering at parts, and nearly in tears at other parts. Just listen to it already, your already this far in! You know you want to listen to it!

For the Emperor

Another great audible in the gaunts ghost series still retains that boots on the ground desperate fight for the Imperium.

Amazing Voice acting

Toby Longworth is amazing. I would listen to him narrate anything. I am saddened by the deaths, but this is GrimDark so someone had to die.

Heroes and Villains, Finality

This book is the culmination of 6 books of character building and story arcs. So many pigeons come home to roost in this book and it can't be said that Dan drags the arcs too long and can't finish a story. Dan always knows when to wrap it up before it's unmanageable. Sometimes this leaves his books unsatisfying and abrupt. This is not one of those times. This is perfection. He's not afraid to give either side W and he plays both sides of this book like a chess game sacrificing pieces for pieces. Prepare yourselves.

Fantastic

One of the best yet in here. Its up there with Necropolis and Honour Guard. Hard hitting battle, tons of Imperial spice, and even the forces of Chaos receive some character for for the first time in the series. Abnett does, however, re-use a trick he already employed in one of the earliest Gaunts Ghosts novels, but he ties up his Ending end epilogue better than usual. I highly reccomend!
