Publisher's summary

The Night Lords - traitors and killers who use fear as a weapon - face threats from within and without as they struggle to rebuild their Legion and continue to fight the Long War.

Listen to it because:

It's an assured and confident second novel from Aaron Dembski-Bowden that kicks off one of the most acclaimed and beloved series in Black Library history - and it's a chance to see the Long War from the Night Lords' perspective!

The story:

The Night Lords were once among the most potent forces of the Imperium, Space Marines who used fear itself as their weapon. Now, cast adrift from the Emperor's light and hunted as heretics after their monstrous betrayal, the Night Lords clad themselves in symbols of death and fight the Long War, bringing pain and terror to all who worship the corpse-god of Terra.

A summons from Warmaster Abaddon sends these rebels on a dangerous journey that leads inexorably to a conflict with the Emperor's chosen warriors, the Blood Angels.

Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Running time 13 hours and 5 minutes. Narrated by Andrew Wincott.

An excellent portrayal of traitor Astartes

A must-read trilogy for any Chaos Space Marine or Night Lords fan, and even loyalists should enjoy it. It portrays a different face of the Traitor Legions that most works that feature them don't. As for the audiobook itself, the narration is easy to listen to and follow, with my only complaint that it's sometimes hard to tell the Space Marines apart, but this isn't too bad, as there's plenty of "said Cyrion" etc. to help you keep track. Highly recommended.

Strong Prose with Little Substance

Aaron Dembski-Bowden provides a vivid look at at the dark of overlooked Night Lords legion from WH 40k. unfortunately that look involves a story that does not provide a satisfactory arc or coherent thread of motive for its actors. The play with premonition and underhanded tactics employed by the night lords is interesting in the moment but culminates in a return to the status quo that is unsatisfactory.

A saving grace of this story is the well written and interesting depiction of the death of the Night Haunter. The event is oft referenced in novels and is satisfying to read in explicit detail.

Dark and oddly noble

The story is captivating and depravingly dark wilst with an air of nobility to the main protagonist regardless of the questionably barbaric decisions he must make. Conan the barbaraian in spacesk. loved it the narrator really sold the story between the different charecters they voiced and the emotions brought forth from each one. FANTASTIC. Would recommend to not only chaos fanboys or just even 40k enthusiasts but to any scifi fantasy enjoyer. Can not understate how well the story and the narrator work in tandem to really sell this environment and universe. 10/10
