The Mistress: Original Sinners, Book 4

Nora Sutherlin is in handcuffs, held captive by two men. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captors aren't interested in play. As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories - sensual tales. This, Nora realizes, is her life: nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It's a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.

Publisher's Summary

There's punishment - and then there's vengeance.

Nora Sutherlin is in handcuffs, held captive by two men. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captors aren't interested in play. Or pity.

As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories - sensual tales of Soren, Kingsley, and Wesley, each of whom has tempted and tested and tortured her in his own way. This, Nora realizes, is her life: Nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It's a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.

But in Nora's world, no one is ever truly powerless - a cadre of her friends, protectors, and lovers stands ready to do anything to save her, even when the only certainty seems to be sacrifice and heartbreak....

    "Better than expected!"

Tiffany Reisz's storytelling abilities are extraordinary. It takes a talented author to take a reader completely out of their comfort zone, yet keep the same reader compelled not to want to put it in down. I’m not always comfortable with everything I read in this series. I do keep an open mind and I am captivated enough by the story to keep reading. Not only was the story captivating, but I was invested in these characters. Having read a few of these books I thought that I knew the characters well enough. Nope. Not a chance. Ms. Reisz continues to surprise me as I learn more and more about each character and the world they live in. This book is hard to review without spoiling big parts so I apologize its vague. Only con: narrator's voice seemed a bit young but still did a decent job.

    "Terrible Narrator"
What made the experience of listening to The Mistress the most enjoyable?

I LOVE Tiffany Reisz's books. She's an excellent story teller and her characters are complex, but fun to follow.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

This narrator was horrid. She confused her French and English accents so that certain characters were incomprehensible (particularly the editor's wife, who is supposed to be British but ended up sounding like characature of a Transylvanian vampire).

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Loved the book itself.

    Any additional comments?

Come on audible, either get narrators who can do accents well or have the narrators skip the accent entirely. You're ruining great books this way.

"Horrible Narrator. Got a girl to do a woman's job"

I am so disappointed. They have done a good job with the rest of this series. This narrator sounds like a 19 year old girl. Please listen to the sample before you purchase this book. I will be returning the audio and getting the ebook. I may have to go listen to a earlier book in this series to "cleanse" my hearing.

    "Terrible Narration!"

If you listened to the first books, I recommend that you read The Mistress. The narration is all wrong. Adult characters are given child-like voices and the Irish accent is the worst I have ever heard.

"Excitement, kink, and a... girl narrator?"

This is a great conclusion to a wild ride for the characters, but the narrator is WAY too young. I'm not sure what happened to the previous vocal talent but Ginger Cornish SHOULD NOT be reading something the likes of this. Her voice is entirely too young and it was creepy and gave Nora a 20-year-old voice rather than the experienced woman she is. That and the accents were just bad. Let this girl narrate the likes of Twilight or 50 Shades, not a Tiffany Reisz book.

The story itself is smoldering. Nora has been kidnapped and the main men in her life are scrambling to her rescue. In the meantime we get to hear some of the loose ends tied up and a lot of fun kinky stories. LOVE Soren, who is just yummy, even more so that he's just so unattainable as your normal love interest. Kingsley is brought into more detail and we get to see Wesley's transition post-virginity.

Part of me says get is asap, the other wants to recommend you get the paper version to avoid the narration - either way, this is a great end to a series.

    "Still love the story, but..."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I have recommended this series to several friends. I love each character and look forward to the next book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mistress?

The different types of love conveyed in this part of Nora/Soren/King/Wes's story...don't want to give any of the story away so I'll leave it at that

How could the performance have been better?

This performance sounded like a teenage girl...compared to the previous book's narrator.
And 3 out of the 4 books in this series has had a different narrator, I prefer to have the same voices/accents for each book when the series characters are the same.

Did The Mistress inspire you to do anything?

    slap someone :)

"O so good and more to come....yes!"
Where does The Mistress rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 10. Love this series and this listen doesn't let you down!!! Love it!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mistress?

Not giving away any of the storyline...there is a time when Nora and Soren are facing real danger and confront each other with the truth...it is perfect Nora and Soren!

What three words best describe Ginger Cornish’s performance?

    Improved from previous!

    Any additional comments?

This is #4 of the series and one of the best series I have listened to. I highly recommend.
I was worried this was going to be the end of their story but there is more to come and sounds like a very interesting future for all!

    "Painful narration!!!"

Great story but the narrator was so annoying! Too breathy and I had to strain to hear the end of every sentence as she unnecessarily lowered her voice! Painful!!

    "Ms. Reisz, you're a goddess!"
If you could sum up The Mistress in three words, what would they be?

    psychotic, nostalgic, emotional

What did you like best about this story?

    Absolutely everything!!!

Which character – as performed by Ginger Cornish – was your favorite?

    Nora

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Yes, but it's a spoiler.

    Any additional comments?

The Mistress is the fourth installment in Tiffany Reisz's dark erotica series titled: Original Sinners. Man, I can't tell you how many WTF!!!'s went on in this story. Let's just say I was a hot mess by the time it was all over.

The Mistress picks up at pretty much the exact moment The Prince leaves off, and it's a psychotic, nostalgic ride from there. Much of the novel consists of the storytelling of memories from Nora to her captor. This form of writing style was the near perfect platform to show readers just how entwined Nora, Søren, and Kingsley truly are. Wesley's importance in Nora's life is by no means minimized either. In between the visits to the past, present-day characters pull together during some suspense/thriller moments in an effort to rescue Nora. Some relationship dynamics get moved around as a result and I'm still trying to wrap my head around them.

Ms. Reisz writes heartbreaking, emotional moments in The Mistress and I have to admit that I balled like a baby at one point. This installment leaves readers with a sense of hope as the characters all seem to have a renewed sense of direction in their lives. It is evident that this is by no means the ending... and thank God for that because I am so in love with this series. Ms. Reisz, you're a goddess!

    My favorite quote:
“Terrible and beautiful things happened to everyone. That was life. Simply life.”
