Publisher's summary

Is there anything sweeter than a first love?

Don't ask Claire Keyes. The 28-year-old piano prodigy has never had a regular boyfriend, much less a real romance. Her music career has left little room for friends or family - which is just part of the reason she hasn't seen the family bakery or her two sisters in years.

But now Nicole is sick, and Jesse is AWOL. Despite the fact that Claire can't boil water, she's determined to play caretaker. Connecting with her sisters tops her to-do list...along with falling in love, or at least in lust, for the first time.

Ruggedly sexy Wyatt just might fit the bill. Although he keeps saying that he and Claire come from entirely different worlds, he lights up hotter than a bakery oven whenever Claire is near. If this keeps up, she just might sweet-talk him into her bed...and her life.

Sweet Spot, Sweet Trouble, Sweet Talk. Read them in order. I enjoyed the narrator, characters and story line. I recommend it if you are a light-hearted love story kind of reader. Susan Mallery is always good. Go to her website, send her a message. She will send a personal response.

Enjoyable book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend to a friend. It's a nice romance, fun to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, in fact I pretty much did listen to it all in a very short time.

Sweet Talk

Susan Mallary weaves a fabulous tale. They are such a joy to read and it was a delight to listen to the narrator bring each character to life. The narration was wonderful!

Bad narration, oblivious main character

Any additional comments?

It's hard to separate the narration from the story with this book. The way that Plummer read Claire was to imbue her with a Pollyanna-ishness that made her annoying. She does the same thing with Wyatt, the romantic interest. At any point, I expected them to start saying things like, "Golly Gee!" or "Aww, shucks!" When she reads the characters who are more sarcastic or when they are angry, she does a better job. But just because a character is sheltered or has a more optimistic approach does not mean that she needs to be read as a naive idiot.

That said, it can be hard to buy into the sisters motivations and/or behavior which can make them unlikeable. For example:

Spoilers ahead:

Claire’s twin, Nicole, hates her for leaving the family when she was young to go play piano professionally. They keep fighting and making up over stupid things and Nicole exhibits so little empathy or compassion that you wonder why Claire bothers with her.
The youngest sister, Jesse, does something that is basically unforgiveable. Mallery/Jesse implies basically the situation was misinterpreted. So either Jesse was sexually assaulted which makes both Claire and Nicole horrible for not taking time to listen to her side of the story or Jesse was sexually involved with her sister’s husband and takes no responsibility for the situation, making her a horrible sister.

Claire is sheltered, but I find it nearly impossible to believe that a 28 year old woman living in NYC would not know that you can get pregnant the first time you have sex if you don’t use birth control. Did she not have access to the internet. Then she breaks the news to Wyatt in a really unbelievable way. She tells him she has really great news. I can’t believe anyone would be so obtuse to think that a man would immediately be ecstatic that he has knocked up a woman who lives across the country from him who he barely knows.

I have listened to the next book in the series and have decided not to listen to the third book. I may read it and see if not having Plummer narrate makes a difference. So far, there is not a lot to recommend this series,.

Not her best work

These sisters were hard to like. Mean, immature, naive. Many parts, I just rolled my eyes. Narrator rocked, but will not be reading the other books in this series.

Claire was too immature and naive

The only thing that bugged me about the book is how immature and naive claire was. I know the whole story behind her but OhMyGoodness!! Enough was enough already.

IMAO Claire is the only character deserving a HE..

The other two sisters in the series we're just cruel to her but she still forgave them her twin was an outright b i t c h and honestly didn't seem that regretful at how she treated her sister.
don't get me wrong I understand how it is to not have family and to do just about anything to get a family of my own but somewhere you got to have self-respect enough to know when don't deserve to be treated like she was.
I wouldn't put up with it period!
I could see where somebody would have been able to hold her responsible for the death of her mother if she had been the one driving, or she had been arguing with her mom or something but no she was a kid and her mom had just been driving on a rainy day not because Claire explicitly asked her to drive her somewhere but because her mom wanted to be there that's the only thing!!
I just couldn't see why she wouldn't own up to it and actually felt some freaking remorse for treating her sister like crap...
If I had a sister that was half as good as Claire I would never turn my back on her I'm a system brat so I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth but that doesn't mean I don't understand what it's would feel to lose a parent because of a sibling in fact my mom committed suicide after losing her son in the system to adoptive family do I blame my brother no!!! I blame my craptastic mother...
which for clares twin in her situation would not have been right to begin with because it was....
(A freaking accident!!!)
Now the other sister WTF was her problem I hope the other books explains her better if not she sure as heck don't deserve her own book as well she's a piece of work she has a perfectly fine boyfriend and from what I read the description of her book she apparently is pregnant with his kid WTF again she willingly stabbed two very important people she supposedly loved in the back my God it's like I watched Jerry Springer or something and I never did like that series to begin with I probably won't be finishing the other two books at this point I don't think it would be worth it....
