Publisher's summary

"Mallery beautifully illustrates the power of female friendship and the importance of reaching for one's dreams."—Publishers Weekly

Beloved bestselling author Susan Mallery brings listeners an emotional, witty, and heartfelt story that explores the nuances of a broken family’s complex emotions as they strive to become whole in this uplifting story of human frailty and resilience.

Finley McGowan is determined that the niece she’s raising will always feel loved and wanted. Unlike how she felt after her mom left to pursue a dream of stardom, and when the grandfather who was left to raise them abandoned her and her sister, Sloane, when they needed him most. Finley reacted to her chaotic childhood by walking the straight and narrow—nose down, work hard, follow the rules.

Sloane went the other way.

Now Sloane is back, as beautiful and as damaged as ever…and she wants a relationship with her daughter. She says she’s changed, but Finley’s heart has been burned once too often for her to trust easily. But is her reluctance to forgive really about Sloane or worry over losing what she loves the most? With the help of a man who knows all too well how messy families can be, Finley will learn there’s joy in surrendering and peace in letting go.

Don't miss #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery's latest masterpiece, For the Love of Summer, a captivating story that weaves together the complexities of family, friendship, and unexpected bonds.

The different struggles each sister faced

The narration was not great. The child’s voice was painful to listen to not crazy about the predictability of the ending

Family Rocks

This was one of the best Susan Mallory books I've read to date. I was swept up with the alcoholism and the betrayal of the 2 sisters and how they interacted with this disease in between them. I love the fact that there was a romance but it was on the sidelines and not the focal point of the story. I also really love the narrators in the audiobook and thought that it really added something emotions flies to the book. I would definitely recommend this to anybody that loves women's fiction

excellent story

The Sister Effect is a wonderful story, and I highly recommend this book. Although I love all of Susan Mallery's books, I think this has to be one of my favorites. I was drawn in from the very beginning and couldn't put it down. Thank you, Susan Mallery, for another incredible story.

Lots of introspection and learning on this one

It’s hard to describe what it’s like for an alcoholic and those around them.

I’ve never really understood until having finished the book.

Heartwarming and painful for the characters in the book.

A great sister read

A great book about family and the bonds with have with others. Finley and Sloane are two very different people but they are also sisters. I loved how Susan Mallery captured the complicated relationship. Both sisters had some soul searching and romance throughout the book. I could not put it down and highly recommend it. It is not always sunshine and rainbows but neither is real life. This book is honest and fun. Five stars!!

The best part of a cancelled flight

I loved this book. My international flight was canceled and this was a life saver. Susan Mallery writes the best books that makes you feel anything is possible when bad things happen
Now that I am home I am listening it again so my emotions do not cloud the wonderful writing.
Another book that I make sure I have the prong, ebook and audible version so I always have it handy

Family is important. Help needed

This was not only about sisters but brothers. Family is important and we have to daily start over with some people. It's complicated.

Loved this story

First 1/3, I was getting annoyed with the angry sister, but kept powering through and I’m so glad that I did. I knew it would only be a matter of time before things turned around. What a lovely story and I learned more than I knew before about alcoholism.
As always, Tanya Eby did an excellent job narrating!
