Publisher's summary

The second installment in Kresley Cole’s best-selling steamy Immortals After Dark series is now available on audio for the first time!

Centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire - a nightmare in his mind - against his will. Burdened with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to live - until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead.

When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow - accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever she encounters Sebastian, her feelings - particularly lust - emerge multiplied. For the first time, she’s unable to complete a kill.

The prize of the month-long contest is powerful enough to change history, and Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking every opportunity - as they travel to ancient tombs and through catacombs, seeking relics around the world - to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when forced to choose between the vampire she’s falling for and reuniting her family, how can Kaderin live without either?

Great 2nd book in this series!! Loved it

This installment of the Immortals after Dark series is excellent. I love this new world and the use of all the mythological creatures. I am looking forward to the next one.

Sebastion Wroth is the brother of Nikolai from A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER. Nikolai forced Sebastion to drink his blood and become a vampire. Sebastion has spent the last several hundred years hating his brother and wishing he were dead. He has no hope until he meets Kaderin the Cold-Hearted, a Valkyrie who is lost in guilt over the death of her two sisters a thousand yrs ago.

Kaderin showed mercy to a vampire who repaid her by killing her sisters. She mysteriously received the blessing of no emotions, that has allowed her to live with the guilt. But when she meets Sebastion all her emotions come back. She has entered the Hie, a scavenger hunt, to win the key of Thane. A key to time, if she wins she can go back and save her sisters.

The minute Sebastion sees Kaderin he knows she is his Bride. The one woman who can make his heart beat again. Although she quickly leaves him he is determined to find her and once he does he must win her. Decideing to help her win the Hie, he enters the race against her wishes.

The tasks are all over the world and all are hard. Each one earns points, the most points wins. Sebastion wants only to help and protect Kaderin. This is a wonderful mixture of fun and romance, with a great ending.

There will be another book and I am so ready for it. The teaser at the end sounds marvelous.

Don't miss this one, if you like romance and fantasy.

My second listen

I am re-listening to this series and it's even better. Now I'm hearing parts that I missed and I can relate and understand things better that will happen in the future storylines! Kresley Cole's imagination is fire! Brava to her!!
Robert Petkoff was an amazingly wonderful and superb choice as narrator for this series (my only pet peeve is he kept pronouncing "plait" [correctly and phonetically pronounced "plat"] he keeps saying "plate" but that's the ONLY miniscule gripe I have lol. His intonations and ability to change voices, dialects, and emotions are spot on! I can see these characters in my mind with his voices! ¡Bravo my dude! You did the damn thang! ¡Bravo!

Another amazing story

My favorite books always include the Valkyries. This is another amazing story that I have now listen to three times. Robert Petkoff does a stunning job bring the story to life.

Excellent narration

The audiobook is narrated by the talented Robert Petkoff. His voicing of the many accents and his ability to do both male and female characters well makes him a perfect choice for this series. He differentiates the characters very well, even when voicing two males with Slavic accents, or two Valkyrie sisters. His timing and inflection when reading dialogue is excellent. He delivers humorous lines with the right "punch" and is good at knowing just the right inflection needed for the context. My only caveat, and this is a small one, is that the love scenes are delivered a little too dramatically for my tastes, and Kaderin sometimes ends up sounding too breathy. Overall, however, this is an enjoyable story made even better by an excellent narration.

Wonderful addition to the series :D

5 stars

This was a great story. I've read this before and I really liked it but I found that I loved it the second time around. Kaderin and Sebastian are both wonderful characters and their story is great!

Kaderin is a Valkyrie that's been alive for over a millennia. Most of this time she's been known as Kaderin the Cold Hearted as she is unable to feel emotions. This came about after she gained a "blessing" that stripped her of her emotions after she lost her sisters (she's one of triplets) during a battle in a way that caused her to blame herself.

Sebastian Wroth is a Vampire...much to his disgust. He was turned against his will around 300 years ago by his brothers (one of which was Nikolai, the hero from book #1 The Warlord Wants Forever) in order to save his life. Since he didn't want to be a Vampire, he despaired at his state and secluded himself away in a castle far away from everyone. He only drank animal blood and never from humans but he still saw himself as a monster.

Kaderin is in Europe when she hears about a Vampire that's haunting an old castle. The local villagers are scared of him and so she decides to go kill him. When she arrives, she finds Sebastian and is surprised when he doesn't fight her and instead welcomes his death at her hands. She's even more surprised when she feels attraction for him...breaking the many centuries of unfeeling that she's been "blessed" with. Sebastian is willing to die but finds that he's attracted to the beautiful woman that is there to kill him. He's shocked when his heart starts to beat and he realizes that she's his "Bride". They start to come together but Kaderin is unwilling to accept things and runs from him.

Sebastian tries to go after her but finds himself stopped by the sun. He won't be deterred though and after cleaning himself up a bit, he does something that was thought to be impossible...he traces (aka teleports) to her. Before this, it was considered general knowledge that a vampire couldn't trace to someplace they haven't been previously and Sebastian is the first ever (at least that's known of) that's been able to trace to a person and not a place. When he finds her, she's at a goddess's temple for the beginning of a month long scavenger hunt type competition. The prize is something that could enable her to get back her sisters and she's determined to win it at all costs. Sebastian also enters the competition, planning to help Kaderin win her prize. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time and effort to convince her that he's there for her and that she can trust him (and her long hatred of Vampires doesn't help the situation). As they take part in the long competition, they eventually come together and Kaderin is able to come to terms with her feelings for Sebastian. Unfortunately, the prize that could enable Kaderin to bring back her sisters could also take Sebastian away from her forever. Thankfully, they do manage to come through things and get a wonderful HEA together in the end.

I greatly enjoyed this story and loved the ending. Both Kaderin and Sebastian were great characters but I particularly loved Sebastian because of what he was willing to do for Kaderin to ensure her happiness. I was so very happy with how it all worked out at the end. This was a wonderful story and I'd highly recommend it and the series. :D
