Publisher's Summary

An alluring laird....

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart - until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland.

Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the 16th-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length - but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

A prisoner in time....

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side.

Great Scot! Don't miss our other titles in the Highlander series.

What the Critics Say

"Phil Gigante's handling of the prose in Moning's clever paranormal romance is smooth and engaging, but it is his character voicings that truly make this recording one to remember." (AudioFile)

    "Macho male attitude, not impressed."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

To be honest, I've read a lot of romance books and was hoping that the supernatural twist would make this book stand out....that's the only thing that stood out. I'm so tired of the big beautiful dominating man characters. More originality and depth would have helped a lot. Its not enough to have scarred pasts, you have to explore those insecurities and have the characters talk to each other, not just grope each other.

Would you ever listen to anything by Karen Marie Moning again?

Yes, she was great! I thought she did a wonderful job in differentiating the characters and expressing their emotions.

Did Beyond the Highland Mist inspire you to do anything?

Never marry a 16th century highlander.

    Any additional comments?

*Spoilers*I found it ridiculous that the character would allow herself to be pushed around by the "your my woman" attitude and actually be turned on by it after her past relationship disaster. Just because a man kisses with passion, doesn't forgive his aggressive and dominating personality. Hawk compared her to his falcons and how he breaks them into submission, and ignoring his past 15 years of service to the king. You'd think that kind of character would understand not caging a person to their will. I was honestly rooting for Adam, hoping he would succeed, or that he would have wooed her by talking rather than sexual advances which were exactly what Hawk was doing. I mean come on, this guy is a powerful faery and he doesn't know that he's being a sleeze ball. The last straw was when Hawk kidnapped her after seeing her kiss Adam. That's how you win a woman! Shaking my head. I will definitely not be buying the next in the series.

    "sorry for this bad review"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book has no substance at all - maybe it would be for someone who reads Harlequin type romances.

What didn’t you like about Phil Gigante’s performance?

Phil's performance was ok - but I cringed at some of the things he had to say - all those sleek, muscular body parts, etc, etc.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Just disappointed in the lack of story development or characters in the book.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend anyone who wants a good time travel Scottish book to listen to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. The characters in Outlander are believable, well developed and there is lots of romance and laughter and drama without getting all gushy in that sickening way that this novel portrays romance.

    "Dumb and Dumber"

Look, if you want a great story with characters that you grow attached to and a story line that goes past one book and has some meat on it, don't get this book. If you want a sci-fi and a series that you can't put down, get the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. Beyond the Highland Mist is a wannabee copycat, but doesn't make the grade. Save your cash. Move on!

    "Not what I hoped"
Would you try another book from Karen Marie Moning and/or Phil Gigante?

    Probably not from Moning

What was most disappointing about Karen Marie Moning???s story?

Hawk's character was not well developed--didn't act true to his nature. Most disappointing was that it was mostly about their sex life rather than that being a facet of their relationship.

What about Phil Gigante???s performance did you like?

    Accent was good.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Beyond the Highland Mist?

Several but will give one: after they make love the scene where he stands looking out the bedroom window.

    Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed other time travel & highlander novels but this fell short of my expectations.

    "Soft Porn with Poor Writing"

If you are interested in this genre, then read The Outlander series by Diana G. These books were a cheap thrill with poor writing. Not impressed at all.

    "Could Have Been"

This could have been a pretty entertaining book, it has a pretty good story line but overall the book is not very well developed. I've seen quite a few complaints about the narrator. I actually thought he had quite a beautiful voice for the male parts, but the female voices were painful to listen to... sort of like Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie... which is fine for a movie, not so great for a book. I did make it through to the end, but it was so predictable and formulaic, it was an effort to get there.

    "Bad story, terrific narration!"

It's a silly, typical bodice ripper, badly written - laughable actually - with EXCELLENT narration and production value! Phil Gigante talking in Scottish brogue is amazing! Pity about the actual STORY! LOL

    "New Narrator"

If this could be redone narrated by Holter Graham instead I would like to get it again(all the books in her series) because the way Phil Gigante does women's parts they sound more like drag queens, the men's parts are alright though.
