An English Bride in Scotland | [Lynsay Sands]

An English Bride in Scotland

Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun, when her mother suddenly arrived at the abbey to take her home...so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed. From the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy, sweet bride...and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. But when an enemy endangers her life, he'll move the Highlands themselves to save her.

    "So Adorably Sweet!"

This book is such a sweet and tender Highland romance. If you enjoy Cinderella type stories then you will enjoy this one. This book was romantic, funny and because it had a bit of mystery kept my interest throughout. It's really hard not to like this book.

The narrator was wonderful. She did a fantastic job with all the voices and made the listen fast and enjoyable.

This one is too sweet not to give it a listen.

    "Enjoyable sweet listen..."

This is a sweeter and more simple highlander story. Barely any historical references and the storyline is quite simple. Pretty much the blurb tells exactly what's going to happen, no complexity in characters or situations. Still it was good and I enjoyed it. The hero was wonderful and the heroine was likable. Actually I would suggest this book to a first time highlander romance listener. The narration was good too, nothing spectacular but good enough to add extra emotion to the story. I would listen to the next book in the series.

"GOOD DEFINITELY - BUT COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT"

I loved LS's Argeneau vampire books and I love love love a braugh sexy hunky Highlander in a kilt so I preordered this and waited with baited breath and great expectations.

This book was an entertaining, enjoyable, light-hearted fun listen, that had it's moments, however it was all just a bit too 'nice' for my personal taste as I like my Highlanders broody, dark and sexy however Ross was kind, thoughtful and trusting but more of a Prince Charming type. Annabel was sweet, naive, likeable and funny as one minute she is about to be an English Nun then the next minute she's a married woman heading to her husband's castle in Scotland.

There's everything you'd expect from a LS listen - a nice plot with a who, what and why question to ponder over, nice characters, nice H/H but I felt it lacked any sexual tension, awareness or build-up that results in a frantic passion filled chapter or two as desire ignites between them - infact I think this could almost have been a YA listen. The plot seemed to happily meander the listener along but it just didn't raise my blood pressure any (well, maybe that's a good thing tho').?

Narrator did a great job with the many voices required of her.

Worth a credit? If you're looking for a light, enjoyable, easy going listen then Yes you won't be disappointed and for most of us LS's fans it'll be an auto download anyway.

"Very lighthearted story- 3 1/2 stars overall"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Lynsay Sands is a talented author. I enjoy her lighthearted, humorous work. Today's world is filled with enough strife that it is good to read/listen to stories that put a smile on your face & touch your heart. This story just was not up to her usual talent.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Narrated with more emotion, h/h with stronger personalities, and more humor.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Good voice but not enough emotion; more like reading rather than narrating.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Possibly

    Any additional comments?

I look forward to better historical romance from this talented author.

    "I LOVED IT"
What did you love best about An English Bride in Scotland?

I loved An English Bride in Scotland. Ross and Annabel are a very loving, romantic and sexy, sensual couple. Annabel has been retrieved from the Abby where she is about to take her vows as a Nun. Her mother has come to take her home to marry a Scottish Laird in place of her older sister Kate. I think Annabel's naivety was believable. She was neither shy nor knowledgeable about the marriage bed. She really didn't have a clue, so she did what seem to be the right thing to please her husband Ross and enjoyed it herself.. Annabel has been at the Abby since she was 7 years old so she was a blank slate and was Not damaged from any morals or lack of morals from the world or her environment. She had been at the Abbey for 14 year. A real innocent!! I just loved her. She is intelligent and kind and willing to learn from anyone who would teach her. The servants loved her. Ross was an excellent husband and grew to love her immediately although Ross new that Annabel had been replaced by her older sister to marry him. Ross didn't know right away that she had been in training to become a Nun He was very grateful he got her. After you read the story and I Highly Recommend you Do you will understand what I mean. Annabel's older sister Kate was a real B----H!! Jealous and downright evil.

The story is very fasted paced a real page turner. I know some reviewer think Annabel was to knowledgeable for a Abbess but I saw it as her copying behavior from what she saw others do and learning from that. especially her husband. She did know right from wrong but if the behavior was reasonable and probable she copied it. This a really good story with twist and turns along the way. It was everything I love in a Historical Romance!! I loved bk 3 The Highlander Takes a Bride also,. I read it first because I didn't know it was in a series. Now I am off to read bk2 To Marry a Scottish Laird and I really hope it is another 5 star book in the series.

Have you listened to any of Mary Jane Wells’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is a very good narrator!! I would Highly Recommend her and will look for other books she has narrated.

"Had potential...but just was not that great"

I had great hopes for a fun easy to listen to book. While it was an easy listen...and it was a sweet story...it just lacked in the writing department. I don't know what it was but the love scenes were strange....just the way they were written. most of the book just gave me the feeling it was a writers first book...but I have no idea if it was or wasnt...just seemed that way.

I don't think it is worth a credit. Maybe if you get it really really cheap.. but I was dissapointed.

Narration was fine. Not bad..not great. Just fine.

    "Story good, narrator OK"

The narrator was OK in this audiobook. She read the character's parts well, yet read it all with such a bouncy positive intonation, that it actually took away from the overall experience.

I believe I would have liked the story more if I had read it instead.

What did you love best about An English Bride in Scotland?

Ross simply accepts Annabelle without question

What was one of the most memorable moments of An English Bride in Scotland?

Honestly Annabelle just kept getting into these crazy situations during the story no one moment stands out the whole story was super funny and heartwarming in turns

What does Mary Jane Wells bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the story to life, though I can't imagine the story being any less good in print

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment Ross first laid eyes on Annabelle and decided to marry her

    Any additional comments?

the villan was incredibly predictable. When the hero and heroine became vulnerable they got a headwound. I did take one star off because of this.
