"Reminiscent of Liane Moriarty’s What Alice Forgot and Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life, Oona Out of Order is a delightfully freewheeling romp.” (Booklist, starred review)

Oona Out of Order is a remarkably inventive novel that explores what it means to live a life fully in the moment, even if those moments are out of sequence.

Just because life may be out of order, doesn’t mean it’s broken.

It’s New Year’s Eve 1982, and Oona Lockhart has her whole life before her. At the stroke of midnight she will turn 19, and the year ahead promises to be one of consequence. Should she go to London to study economics, or remain at home in Brooklyn to pursue her passion for music and be with her boyfriend? As the countdown to the New Year begins, Oona faints and awakens 32 years in the future in her 51-year-old body. Greeted by a friendly stranger in a beautiful house she’s told is her own, Oona learns that with each passing year she will leap to another age at random. And so begins Oona Out of Order....

Hopping through decades, pop culture fads, and much-needed stock tips, Oona is still a young woman on the inside but ever changing on the outside. Who will she be next year? Philanthropist? Club Kid? World traveler? Wife to a man she’s never met?

Surprising, magical, and heart-wrenching, Margarita Montimore has crafted an unforgettable story about the burdens of time, the endurance of love, and the power of family.

An uplifting joyride
"Imagine living your life out of order… What would it be like to be 19 years old on the inside forever? What would you do it you woke up tomorrow 30 years older than you are today? These are just a few of the questions you can’t help but ask yourself while listening to Oona—a delightful time travel novel that made me take my own trip down memory lane all while imaging various "what-if" scenarios for myself. How much fun would it be to have invested wisely (based on having already lived the future) and now have all of the money you could ever want or need? I’d have a Brownstone too, for sure. I also found myself immediately sympathizing with Oona—cringing at her many missteps and bad choices and reveling alongside her as she parties like a 27-year-old woman who’s already been a 51-year-old woman and is really only 19 years old on the inside. Narrator Brittany Pressley sounds exactly how I’d imagine Oona to sound—capturing the enthusiasm and hopefulness of a 19 year old who also holds a more tempered wisdom—something earned by having already lived so much of her later life." —Tricia F., Audible Editor

A new favorite for my library on here.

Despite how confusing time travel can be, this is an excellent story, for her first novel that I've heard from her. Brittany Pressley's narration is excellent, tones, inflections and all. Would highly recommend it.

Thought provoking book

This book brings up a lot of good discussion topics for book clubs, and I can’t wait to see a Netflix series! But I felt the pacing was a little uncomfortable. There were sections I felt were just glossed over and others in which I would have enjoyed more depth. All in all an enjoyable book, especially toward the end. My book club loved it and the music playlist that it inspires!

Good but tiring

I got pretty tired of hearing about Dale. The story idea was great, and the plot flow was good. Characters weren’t particularly likeable, and I didn’t like the flat voices for the male characters.

Oh my gawd!

This is the best book I have listened to in awhile!

I wish there was more! If anyone makes a movie or a series out of this or based off of this, they better do it justice!

Was expecting more

I liked this book. It was interesting and had a unique story that was unlike many I’ve read. I did like this book, but I wanted so badly to love it. The problem I found was with the main characters inability to move past her self guilt and self pity. Because of this I felt the story sang one note a lot of the time and failed to every really leap off of the page. While I enjoyed the jump from year to year bringing something new to each chapter, it always ended in a similar tone and for me fell flat overall.
