Publisher's summary

Caregivers need care, too.

Nurses are some of the hardest-working people around. Our jobs are demanding in so many ways, both physical and mental. We choose this profession to care for others, but that often means we forget to care for ourselves. When we push ourselves too hard, something has to give. It’s no surprise that burnout is a common phenomenon.

If you’re finding you can’t summon your usual compassion or rethinking why you ever chose to become a nurse, it’s not because you’re a bad person. These are signs of burnout, and it happens to the best of us. Burning out takes a toll on your career, your health, and your personal life - but it can be prevented and managed.

Nurse Burnout is a guidebook for healthcare professionals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, and lack of resilience. In fact, the tools and tips within can be used by anyone in any profession who’s dealing with work burnout. This comprehensive audiobook will teach you to find balance in your life and how to think positive and not crumble under pressure. In Nurse Burnout, you’ll discover:

  • How nurturing others can cause you to neglect yourself
  • How the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated burnout for all nurses
  • The ways burnout can affect emotions, judgment, and work performance
  • Compassion fatigue, emotional exhaustion, and how to respond to crises rather than react to them
  • Simple steps to change your perspective, increase your resilience, and manage your attention
  • How to develop a solid and sustainable work-life balance that will lead to lasting happiness
  • Self-care practices to sleep better, connect with gratitude, and be more mindful

Burning out is a very real issue, and you’re not alone in struggling with it.

After listening to Nurse Burnout, you’ll be refreshed, revitalized, and ready to take on any challenge. This is the first step toward making it better.

A practical guide to deal with nurse burnout

From an experienced nurse comes a reminder that nurse burnout is very real, and if not recognized and dealt with early, it can negatively affect both the nurse's professional and private life. Luckily, this guide shows both how to recognize the burnout and steps to deal with it. Included are explanations of PERMA (acronym for a well-being positive psychology model) , mindfulness meditation, tips for work-life balance and self-care, and more. I love this quote from the book telling nurses to realize that "people who need your help include yourself". I have several nurse friends to whom I will recommend this book!

A Caregiver's Lifeline!

What a timely book! I am not a nurse but am a medical worker. Wilkinson really helped me to step back and reflect on my state of mind, purpose, and intentions. It's so hard to recognize burnout in yourself before your knee-deep in it. This should be mandatory listening/reading for ALL healthcare workers. The #1 reason we go into healthcare is to help people. Well, it's hard to help others when you are not in the right state of mind. All patients need and deserve our full compassion and focus. This book will help you deal with the stress and promote your longevity in the industry. Thank you, Kisha Wilkinson!

Very helpful for a friend

I myself am not a nurse, but I have a family member who is! They tell me all about the struggle with burnout. I wanted to better understand what she was going through and so I picked up this book as a quick read. It definitely helped me understand some of her struggles better and I already find that I am able to more easily give compassion towards her in a more informed way. I also loved the length of the book, since I could have it read and finished by the next day. Next time I see her, I will be pointing her in the direction of this book!!
