Publisher's summary

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

Good read. Consistently entertaining.

As usual, Mitch Rapp gives us an interesting set of circumstances that are entertaining. There were a lot of names to keep up with, and I listened to this book vs reading on a Kindle.

Another Great Mitch Rapp Book

Vince Flynn has continued to perfect and refine his long lineage of Mitch Rapp books and I think The Last Man was yet another highly entertaining listen.

My only gripe with The Last Man was where they took Mitch Rapp early in the novel. It's an overused ploy and it just felt a little tacked on to make the story work. Otherwise I just sat back and enjoyed yet another amazing CIA thriller.

Another great book from Vince Flynn

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Man to be better than the print version?

I have only listened to this book. It is a great book to listen to especially with George Guidall narrating. I look forward to the next book by Vince Flynn.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love to listen to George Guidall. In fact I look for books he narrates.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Some of the language sequences made me laugh out loud.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to the entire Mitch Rapp series. I loved it!

UNBELIEVABLY GREAT! Surpasses the rest!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Man to be better than the print version?

Don't know; I only listened to it -- the reader is fantastic and I enjoy the audio version tremendously.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Oh yes -- it surpassed all earlier "Mitch Rap" books!

Which scene was your favorite?

Don't want to give it away.

Any additional comments?

The earlier books in this series were fantastic, well written, and kept me wanting to drive & drive to keep listening. However, THE LAST MAN surpassed all of the earlier "Mitch Rapp" books. HIGHLY recommend the entire series; don't cheat... start with the first (chronologically) in the series.... you will not regret your decision to start reading / listening to this series - its phenomenal.

The Hunter becomes the Hunted

Again, I can say this is the best Mitch Rapp so far. One notable feature: there were several events occurring simultaneously, but all were easy to follow. I never felt lost, like I do with some authors who try to introduce too much going on in the story. In this book, a prominent member of the clandestine group has been kidnapped and is possibly dead. In the course of following leads, Rapp discovers he has been marked for assassination and the assassin is a previous nemesis come to haunt him again. The real surprise is what happens at the moment Rapp is targeted. His journey through a loss of memory keeps the story moving. Coleman is back as one of Rapp's "helpers" and, as usual Kennedy plays a prominent role. As with other books in this series, sometimes it is difficult to determine which side people are on, but Rapp manages to sort it out and with his "the end justifies the means" attitude, he puts everything back in place. Stan Hurley is back, but his unfortunate health condition means this is probably his last appearance.

Last Man was the right one

I so wanted Rickman to pay! His evil nature made the reader / listener cheer as he went down with his cronies defeated by the good guys. I enjoyed this so much that I hated for it to end.

Great book!

I'm sad that this book marks the end of the Mitch Rapp series and my prayers are with the Flynn family.
