Publisher's summary

The CIA keeps a lot of secrets. None more deadly than him.

After a covert mission became personal, the only way elite counterterrorism operative, Alexander King, could keep his loved ones safe, and the eyes of Washington's enemies blind to his existence, was to disappear.

A year after his family buried a body they thought was his, King saves a young woman from a car bomb in London, and that's when his work in the shadows becomes complicated. Because she's not who he thinks she is, and the web that King is pulled into is tangled with enemies that reach the highest levels of the United States government.

But this web being spun by a sadistic terrorist isn't your average one-time explosive attack. Saajid Hammoud is aiming higher. He isn't trying to cripple the greatest military in the world, he's looking to control it. And owning the presidential candidate with a clear path to the White House gets him all the way to the top.

When politics fail, and the might of the world's most powerful nation hangs in the balance, it's secret weapons like Alexander King who scour the alleys and back avenues that often make the difference.

Unfortunately, King isn't the only secret in this high stakes game of war. But for the sake of the free world, he sure as hell better be the best.

If you couldn't put down Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Brad Thor's Scot Harvath, or David Baldacci's Will Robie, fans of Bradley Wright believe you won't be able to put down the addictive Alexander King.

Wright's best book yet!

I have read all of Bradley's books, and have listened to all three audiobooks. This one is THE BEST!! You can feel the renewed energy around Xander and his evolving story. I love the new direction and can't wait to see what he has in store for the rest of the series. I also loved Lemaster's narration. He doesn't quite have the Kentucky twang but he has a strong, clear voice needed for X and does a good job switching characters also.

Book okay, narrator disappointing

This narrator was just lazy. There were a lot of significant place names in the story, and they were just butchered. Leicester Square? Nope. Calais? Sort of. And the worst was Bruges (a city in Belgium). Rather than pronouncing it "BROOZH" (easy to find on Wikipedia or hear pronounced elsewhere online), the narrator pronounced it like "Burgess." Every time. The story was fine--typical thriller fare but not exceptional.

Story flowed like an abridged book

This book earned only three stars but I think it was a good offering for the first in a series. Times and locations were changed quickly and the listener had to fill in the blanks. With that said, Alexander King was a likable protagonist, at least for this listener. I liked the relationship he had with Sam and his violent behavior was carried out with the best of intentions. I didn't have any problem separating the good guys from the bad guys in this novel although some may. Although I purchased this book on sale, I'm interested enough to listen to Book 2 if and when it is offered. I'd like to hear better narration next time, but a solid three stars.

Exciting

A fascinating story filled with action and excitement and a very likable hero. There are great twists in the plot that add to the story. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Narration mars a decent story

Narrators that mispronounce well known places should be replaced. At least four places were badly mispronounced: Leicester Square was pronounced “Leichester ” not “lester;” Bruges, Belgium was pronounced “burgess;” Calais, France was pronounced “Cali;” and Barrow, Alaska was pronounced “borrow.” On top of all that he seemed very bored with the story more often that not, as if he was about to fall asleep.
