Publisher's summary

Following the events of The Longmire Defense, we return to find Walt and our familiar cast of characters from Abaroska county tasked with solving a crime even more challenging than the last.

Walt Longmire returns in this twentieth installment of the award-winning and bestselling series that has been a hit on both the page and the screen. Set in the unsoiled countryside of Wyoming, Sheriff Walt Longmire has to navigate his own increasingly complicated personal life with the ever-changing and often violent underworld that encroaches on what was once referred to as the Old West. This time, he is up against a sinister plot that could hurt the people closest to him and forever change the way he sees his beloved Wyoming.

Outstanding Audio

Craig Johnson and George Guidel make a good team. I have listened to all of the Longmier series and enjoyed every minute. Craig is one of my favorite authors and never fails to weave a great story and who better to bring it to life than George. Outstanding audio!

An enjoyable trip back to the past

I enjoyed going back to hear a story about Walt and Henry when they were younger. I hope the series continues on this path in future installments.

AND HE' NOT TO BIG TO SURF!!!

it was very interesting!! But Longmire and Craig Johnson Books are exactly like that. I will reread the book just so I know I got the storyline right. But no matter what it is an awesome book and I totally enjoyed it. Thank you Mr Johnson for another great book!!!

Amazing storytelling!!

Craig Johnson has expertly woven two different times for Walt Longmire and Henry Standing Bear. History and the choices we make. I couldn’t love Walt Longmire more and hope Mr Johnson will continue writing about him, his life and, of course, beloved Wyoming.

The Venerable team of Craig Johnson and George Guidall are the very best.

Familiar and loved characters in a fresh story about a tragic time in American history. As always I learned many things and enjoyed the unfolding of the story.

Narrator brings author’s story alive

I greatly enjoy listening to these novels. While I love to read, the narrator is so good that I have listened to most of the Longmire novels.

A little dragged out

I got tired of each time they were ready to leave town something else popped up. Also, I did not realize the importance of reading the book before this because the intertwined story between now and the 60s made no sense to me and was just exes that I had no interest in because I didn’t know what was going on. I don’t think that was pointed out in the synopsis and I must have bought this just based on the fact I like the series, without reading reviews.

Great Performance

The reader’s voice sounded just like I would imagine Walt Longmire sounding. It was a little bit hard to follow the time changes, but now I understand it is an underlying continuum.

A bit disjointed

Frankly, this book is rough. I almost gave up on it twice, but George's typically excellent reading kept me going when the story staggered. The two plots are barely interwoven and have little or nothing to do with one another. And while the history involved in the 'flashback' sections (most of the book) is interesting...the story really isn't. it serves no purpose in the grand scheme of Walt's life except to demonstrate yet again his nigh-supernatural ability to absorb physical damage and keep going, just with less tension than usual (since you know beyond a doubt that neither Walt nor Henry are in permanent danger).

So...overall, meh. Not bad, but not particularly good either. At least it sets the hook for the next book.
