Publisher's summary

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

An excellent story and extremely well read.

As always, Vince Flynn adds that extra thrill to the plot. I have listened to many of his books and always look forward to a gripping story and a great climax. Keep up the good work Vince.

Engaging Performance

I'm certainly glad this was my first Vince Flynn novel because I love a good story, and he delivered from the start. The depth of his characters, as narrated by George Guidall, gave such a sense of intrigue that I couldn't get enough. I am now a fan, and I highly recommend to anyone who appreciates good storytelling.

The End of the Series

Would you listen to The Last Man again? Why?

Yes, the book was a good ending point for the Mitch Rapp series since Vince has died since this book was published. Don't get me wrong I would loved to have more books in this series but I'm not sure if another author could come in and pick up the series and characters as well as Vince Flynn did.

What other book might you compare The Last Man to and why?

As I have said with many of books in this series is just as enjoyable and action packed as Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series or Brad Thor's Scot Harvath series. Any person who has enjoyed either of these series will enjoy and get addicted to Flynn's Rapp character and his no nonsense approach to how the war on terror should be fought.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Rapp-Guidall just makes him come alive. I can see his facial features and mannerisms when he is pissed off or just trying to push through all the red tape the government when it comes to getting to the truth. His attitude comes across very well by the way Guidall is able to voice the narrative. Looking forward to listening to Guidall read other authors in the future

Any additional comments?

Rest in Peace Mr. Flynn.

Another Vince Flynn blockbuster

What did you love best about The Last Man?

The story, the Middle East setting.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Generally I liked the performance although I thought George's voice wasn't what I thought Mitch Rapp would sound like. I thought he'd sound younger. George did very good Pakistani and Middle East accents though.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Good but no surprices

The story is pretty seethrough - but then I have read/listened to a few of these books by now. The caracters is what make this story good. I got really involved with the caracters and could relate to all of them. Some made me really irritated for being so extremly naive and gullible with no critical sense at all, while others intrigued me and made me want to learn more about them. The storyline was pretty basic and one knew the outcome pretty quickly. I bought this book because I was hopeing it would be different - but I was let down there. I also had a bit of a problem with the narrator - his speach was not clear enough for my liking - at the same time his performance matched the caracters in the book. I guess its just me who is not used to this slurry speach.

Good enough but no surprises unless you get excited about the caracters. I would recommend it for braindead entertainment.

Not the best Flynn novel, but it was still good.

it was good, tough to get through certain parts. it lacked the action that the others had in certain spots. one major action scene want enough fire me.
