Publisher's summary

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

A great story

The narrator George Guidall is the best. He makes Vince’s stories come to life and real.

Incredible

I love how this new author manages to keep the stories so fresh. I have read 14 Mitch Rapp books and am amazed that I continue to find them thrilling and edge of your seat entertaining. I find the authors knack of delving deep into the villains personality is the reason the novels remain fresh. There is the "good "villain and several bad, bad guys. The dynamics among the various antagonists is usually the most entertaining. Mitch has matured and added depth to his character. Loved this audio book.

In this genre, Mitch is the superstar!

All year I look forward to a new Mitch Rapp THRILLER and then I feel let down when it is over. I don't want it to end and this is no exception! I'll miss Stan in future stories.

This is an excellent story, amazingly well written that holds one's attention firmly. Hate to put it down, waiting for the next twist to be revealed.

Much Improved

What made the experience of listening to The Last Man the most enjoyable?

Great narrator and gripping story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mitch Rapp of course is the best character but the author creates very interesting characters, so they are all important. I even enjoyed the villians!

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

Narrator is one of the best in the industry. I liked how he was able to give characters different voices and even all the different accents were very believeable.

Any additional comments?

I read one of Vince Flynn's first books and was not that impressed. It reminded me of a run-of-the-mill action movie where you could see everything coming with your typical plot and could predict how every scene would turn out.
This book was surprisingly good. The story line kept my attention and were enough twist's and turns in the plot to make the story very interesting.

Mitch is back

What made the experience of listening to The Last Man the most enjoyable?

The storyline is familiar to those who've listened to this series before, revisiting Afghanistan and with familiar characters. The narrator is excellent: his voice, pacing and done are excellent and very suitable for the novel.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Mitch Rapp. Definitely, although, interestingly enough, Kennedy is good too.

Any additional comments?

Just a good, tight novel with characters I've become familiar with over the rest of the series.

The story was good, but too telegraphed

I’m a fan of the Mitch Rapp series and I enjoyed this book. There was one aspect that didn’t make much sense to me and was not explained, and it was a considerable telegraph as to where the plot was going. I found that aspect a bit disappointing.

As long as I’m on the critical side of my review, I find that most Mitch Rapp books don’t spend as much time on the Mitch Rapp character as I would like - other characters take up a lot of the story.

Regardless, I’m a fan of the series and I enjoyed this book 👍.
