Publisher's summary

Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there's that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she's ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life. But all of that combined barely scratches the surface of her problems. Recent developments—and a few distressing prophesies—have forced her to become a responsible adult. Exactly the kind of adult she's never aspired to be. To conquer such a monumental task, she's decided to start small. Really small. She gets a pet. But how can she save the world against the forces of evil when she can't even keep a goldfish alive?

A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.
We're doomed.

Stories keep getting better

I have enjoyed all the books so far, but the more you learn the more you want to know and the more the excitement builds. Well written. I love the various plot lines that weave their way through the broader story line.

I enjoy the narrator and the voices she creates for the characters, however her pronunciation of some of the words common to New Mexico sets my nerves on edge. I have had to go back several times as the mispronunciations distracted me and I missed things. To be fair every area has some words that may not be pronounced the same, especially depending on how they are being used. (Think of California’s famous Rodeo Drive that sounds nothing like the rodeos you would expect to see cowboys at). But there is one character’s name in this book that is just wrong...I cringe every time!

Charlie!!

I have enjoyed all the books so far. But I'm really starting to get aeriated with Charlie. She just doesn't care about what anyone tells her to do. She just keeps getting into trouble. I will listen to one more book. And hopefully she will stop.

Love this series

I can't stop listening to this series. I happened by chance on this series and it was like no other I have ever listened to. The narrator is fantastic. The storyline is quirky and fun to listen to.
Give it a try, you will get hooked also

Great Series & Awesome Narration!

I love this series! Darynda Jones writes them in such a way that everything is hilarious and at the same time dead serious. And I literally mean "dead" serious. I've never read detective novels like hers. She is one of a kind. Lorelei King gets better & better narrating it too! Kudos to both of you! As always, I highly recommend them.

Jokes are not as corny

I enjoy a good joke as much as the next gal, however the constant silly lines in the previous stories have gotten on my nerves at times. This one, as well as the last, is more mature. At times both serious and laugh out loud funny, Charlie really comes into her powers and we begin to see what she is really capable of. I also like that the characters in her life continue to support her unconditionally and we begin to see them playing a huge part in her future. Narration is spot on, as usual!
