Publisher's summary

Midlife is full of surprises. Not all of them are working for me.

At 42, I’ve had my share of ups and downs. Relatively normal, except when the definition of normal changes...drastically.

New York Times best-selling romance author: Check
Amazing besties: Check
Lovely home: Check
Pet cat named Thick Stella who wants to kill me: Check
Wacky-tabacky-dealing aunt: Check
Cheating husband banging the weather girl on our kitchen table: Check
Nasty divorce: Oh, yes
Characters from my novels coming to life: Umm...yes
Crazy: Possibly

Four months of wallowing in embarrassed depression should be enough. I’m beginning to realize that no one is who they seem to be, and my life story might be spinning out of my control. It’s time to take a shower, put on a bra, and wear something other than sweatpants. Difficult, but doable.

With my friends - real and imaginary - by my side, I need to edit my life before the elusive darkness comes for all of us.

The plot is no longer fiction. It’s my reality, and I’m writing a happy-ever-after no matter what. I just have to find the write hook.

Zees another cliffhanger!

Not my usual reads but I did like it till I got to the end...A darn cliffhanger!
I did Like that crazy old aunt Flip, her friends they made me laugh out loud a lot and what about that cute little Cheeto.
Do hope Seth & Clementine get together.

Cliffhanger

Loved everything except the cliff hanger ending. Really wonderful characters, especially Clementine and her Aunt.

I was skeptical...

I had to get past the way the narrator sounded like she was from the 1930s or 40s. After awhile though it grew on me. A funny and interesting story that kept me listening, wanting to know what was going to happen next. By the end, I wished it wasn’t over. Now I can’t wait to listen to the next books in this series.

Story good.. narrator for this book - could be better

Enjoyed the story.

Narrator was not the best choice for this story. (Just doesn’t work for this book - would be good with others)

I am intrigued to listen to future books in series, but will not if same narrator.

so so

great cast of characters. Narrator has an interesting voice although I'm sure it is lovely, what she does with her voice kind of grates on your nerves.

Too much like the Midlife books to enjoy

I need to go back and rate the midlife series because I loved them! I finished all 8 books in 3 weeks with a full time + job and 3 kids. They made me want to explore more of Robyn Peterman's collection.
That's where the disappointment came. This book is too much like the other series without as much fun. It doesn't help that the narrator is supposed to be Kentucky born and bred with an upper East Coast accent of a cabby.
I'm going to finish it though and take a break before I swear off all of her series'. I'm just hoping that the same repetitive "banging, opinions are like buttholes, burned weenies, and Gram" are not constant in her other books.
I shouldn't judge too harshly, I haven't published anything. It's just, this is quite a let down after the Midlife series.
