When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma, is the serial killer’s next target Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes’ help. Arsonist or not, he’s the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.

Charley Davidson is at it again in Fifth Grave Past the Light, the sexy, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny fifth installment of the New York Times best-selling series by Darynda Jones.

    "Darynda Jones does it again!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book. As with all Darynda Jones, Charlie Davidson series, her books are full of humor and sarcasm. They are just a joy to listen too.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If I have said it a hundred times! The narrator makes all the difference in the world when it comes to listening to a book. Lorelie King hits the nail on the head with her narration of this series. She brings the characters to life.

    "Can't Wait for More!"

I LOVE this series. Charley Davidson is fantastic, love the banter between characters, it's so funny but at the same time serious. I have been waiting for this book to come out and after listening to it I'm going to go crazy waiting for the next one to come out. If you like Charlene Harris or Janet Evanovich, you will love this series. Read, listen enjoy!

    "Not a Dull Moment!"

I love this quirky, original, and entertaining series. The character's lives go on, sometimes as predicted, but always with an unexpected twist. Darynda Jones meets my expectations with every book without becoming trite. Can we clone her?

And Ms King is a very appropriate and capable narrator. With a good narrator, I can easily forget her contribution as narrator and how it influences whether I or not I can become absorbed in the story. Ms King hits the mark in everything I've heard her perform. She's a top tier narrator.

    "Love Charley"
What did you love best about Fifth Grave Past the Light?

That this book is getting us closer to answers about Charley's abilities.

What did you like best about this story?

That Charley's relationship with the son of satan has moved to the next level. No more dancing around their attraction.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There is not a narrator I love to listen to more than Lorelei. Most of the books in my library were chosen because Lorelei was the narrator. She is the reason I found the Charley Davidson series. She brings personality to the characters

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would love to listen to this book in one sitting. Then I would be longing for the next book, which is where I am now. I can't with unitl the "6th Grave" comes out.

"Each book in series gets better"
Where does Fifth Grave Past the Light rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Darynda Jones reminds me of Charlaine Harris maybe Jeaniene Frost as well always able to write an absorbing story with great character base. Even though there is some really bad stuff happening there is alway a laugh out loud moment. (several actually) I finished this in one day it was that good.

What did you like best about this story?

There has been growth in Charlie and Reyes. Even though they are still coming to terms with who they are. These stories should be read in order from the first book in the series because information from previous books are important to the next one

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Lorelei King narrate Patricia Briggs "Mercy Thompson" series. (which she does just as fantastic as this one. Great with emotions, voices and humor.

    Any additional comments?

I can't wait for the next book in this series. Daerynda Jones really knows how to make mystery/paranormal/dark humor work.

    "I want some more!"

"Grrrrr! Now this could be for the growl or groan I made when I finished 5th Grave Past the Light and have to wait for the next book, (I'm guessing a year) or this grr could stand for the GRRREAT! that Tony the Tiger makes. I loved this book! 5th Grave met and exceeded all of my expectations. It answered questions, made me ask more questions and twisted me all up on the inside. Each book in this series dragged me more into this world and grips me harder and harder. Daryndra Jones has created some great characters and they all impact me, good and bad. From the first time I seen the cover of First Grave on the Right posted and recommended by JR Ward on her website (The White cover with the skull sandals and scythe). I thought hmm this looks interesting. When I read the blurb, a chick named Charely Davidson who happens to be the Grim Reaper, I was sold. I've never been disappointed. I was hooked with the first few chapters. With laughter or heartbreak I've loved this series completely and I recommend to everyone who will listen. I will admit my stomach clenched over the "post-it" note on Charelys door in chapter 9, and my co-works think I'm nuts. I had a few bust out loud with laughter moments today and The GPS app with OZZY as the Voice... All I can say is "Holy Crow! I want that!" The audio book is an awesome way to get into this series. Lorelei King is a great narrator and she does an excellent job with this series.

    "More Snark Than Mystery"

I love how much of Charley and Reyes there is in this book. The murder mystery of the women seemed like it took a backseat to them, which was fine with me. The serial killer (yet another one) was interesting but it's much more fun to look at the relationships between the main characters. I do wish UB would just ask Cookie out already. The book progressed the overarching storyline along with a good amount of new information that only Reyes seems to have known before and of course, Charley gets beat up again. Charley's naming everything in sight is getting a bit overdone but overall I enjoyed listening. I can't wait to see what happens next. Lorelei King did a wonderful job as narrator as always.

    "Flipping Fantastic!!!!!!"
Would you listen to Fifth Grave Past the Light again? Why?

Absolutely. I love this series so much. I can't wait to see what happens next. If you want love, action, suspense and tons of laughs this is definitely the series for you. Thanks Darynda for showing us this wonderful world you've created. Please give us more, lots more.

What did you like best about this story?

That Charlie is beginning to find out more about what she is and what she's capable. Oh! and there's always Reyes. Can't get enough of him

    Which scene was your favorite?

Spoiler Alert!!!! My favorite part is the ending when she finds out what Reyes has bought in her name and wants to know the answer to the question on the post it

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did read it in one sitting. I can't get enough of these fantastic characters.

    Any additional comments?

Charlie is a smart mouth, sexy as hell, fierce friend, niece, daughter and sister but she continues to be a good person. Now matter what happens she continues to live her life protecting and helping others. She is a great role model

    "Freakin' ADD Charlie...Love It!"

I was anticipating the release of book 5 and now I can't wait for book 6! I love this series! Charlie is at it again with her ADD tendencies by taking on multiple cases, dealing with the upcoming apocalypse, dealing with her hot son of Satan lover, and getting beat up all the time by crazies. It's not hard to follow if you've read the previous books 1-4. The book brushes up on what happens in the past but to really understand Charlie's crazy past, I suggest listening to books 1-4 first. My favorite parts of the book is the Chapter titles like, ..."I'm currently unsupervised. It freaks me out too but the possibilities are endless" or "Whoever's in charge of making sure I don't do stupid sh** is fired" or "my goal in life is to have a psychiatric disorder named after me". Love it! Keep rockin' on Darynda Jones. You're keeping me fully entertained with Charlie's crazy antics.
