Never underestimate the power of a woman on a double espresso with a mocha latte chaser high. (T-shirt)
Charley Davidson isn’t your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She’s more of a paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. However, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. To further complicate matters, Reyes is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth... but then dead women start appearing in her apartment, one after another, each lost, confused, and terrified beyond reason.
When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma, is the serial killer’s next target Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes’ help. Arsonist or not, he’s the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.
Charley Davidson is at it again in Fifth Grave Past the Light, the sexy, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny fifth installment of the New York Times best-selling series by Darynda Jones.

Again I loved this book. I love the storyline and the narrator is one of my favorites. The fact that I have to wait for however long for another book is pure torture, so I have decided to listen to the series again from the beginning while I sit in wait for the next book. I always laugh at Charlie, but man she always ends up in trouble...bad trouble. Oh well, I guess you can do that when Hot...Hot...Hot Reyes has got your back....(did I mention that he was hot)?
Love a story w/ humor,romance,adventure, w/out a lot of bickering,& good deals.
This book and series ranks at the top of my list.
The best narrator for this series, she brings uniqueness to each character.
If you like humor, romance, mystery, and paranormal, weaved together by a very talented author & narrator this series is for you.
It is best to start at the beginning of the series for each book builds upon the others and the characters develop throughout.
Can't say enough about the uniqueness of this storyline.
There is adult language and situations, not for young readers, but this author does have other books for teens.
I have enjoyed Charley Davidson and Reyes and Cookie and the list goes on. Its fall down funny and the next minute I am taken by sadness. There is action and more action and then a really? I cared about the H/h from the beginning. Gotta love Cookie, I have a Cookie as a friend and sidekick. Waiting for UB and Cookie to get together. That's what makes a good book for me is the don't want it to end and when is the next one coming thing. Yes it can be silly at times but I need silly sometimes to make the life more interesting.
I have a wide range of books I like to read and listen to and the voice behind the reading can make or break the audible and Lori is one of my favorites. It is too bad our review didn't have sound because you would hear me doing the happy dance. Take a chance on this series it is one of my favorites and a must down load...I give it **********stars if I could..
I go back and forth. I like Charley, but then there are times when I kind of want to punch her. So far, the good outweighs the bad. This book was like the last in that it was slightly schizophrenic. It went from being light and funny to dark and icky in a heartbeat. I love Lorelei King. She's part of what tips the scale to good for me. As annoying as Charley can be, I really enjoy the other characters and am glad to see their development. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
This had good reviews and I started listening and enjoyed the funky characters. The author's writing style even had me laughing out loud in my car.
And then all of the sudden, it turned into it soft porn and I was so disappointed.
I was getting into the story and it had so much promise. I was really liking the characters.
Why did it have to be wrecked with the overly descriptive sex scenes?
I guess some people are into that, and that's fine. I just wish it wasn't part of this book. I can't even continue it and I would've liked to.
The author is talented and her characters are enjoyable. The narrator did a good job too.
If anyone knows of a PG13 version, let me know.
I have 3 kids that occupy all the TV's in the house...enough said...addicted to audiobook ....shhhh don't tell my husband ;-)
Another awesome addition to the series. In this hilarious installment more information is given on what Charley is besides the grim reaper. More suspense on her cases and of course one-liner zingers about Danger and Will Robertson. If you haven't discovered this awesome paranormal series then add it to your wish list and prepare to laugh out loud ;-)
I didn't love this series with the first book, but everyone loved it so much that I kept at it. I now love it. This book was the best one yet!
I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next one. Charlie is a fun heroine that I enjoy reading.
I picked up the first book in this series (only 10 days ago) because Lorelei King was the narrator. I couldn't stop until I ran out of books in the series. Charley is a great character. The writing is smart and quick witted. The stories kept me interested and very entertained!
Yes! The writing is superb! Always a very well rounded story with just the right amount of humor, drama, and heart warming tenderness. It all balances out so perfectly. Darynda Jones is a genius! Love it!
Do I really need to pick just one? That's soooo unfair. I'm gonna have to be a rule breaker and say... Charley Davidson (no brainer), Reyes (no brainer), Cookie, Amber, Swopes, Uncle Bob, Rocket, Strawberry shortcake, Mr. Wong, Angel, Artemis, Donovan and his gang... pretty much everyone that isn't a bad guy. It's really hard not to become attached to all of Darynda Jones' characters. They're all so real and lovable in their own special way.
Lorelei King is the BOMB! A true artist! Seriously. Narrators can do one of three things to a book. They can either; 1) Add nothing to it whatsoever because the narration is completely neutral (this rarely happens), 2) Totally ruin a perfectly good book (Or even a so-so book). This tends to happens more often than not because it's the voice and inflection a narrator adds to the characters that can so easily change the way the dialogue is interpreted. Very tricky thing to get just right. OR 3) Their narration enhances the story, making a great book even better or improving a book that needed the help. That's what Lorelei King does. She is spot on in her narration for the story and EVERY character. I can't imagine Charley Davidson or anyone else sounding any other way. She's PERFECT! And I'm so glad she's THE narrator on every book. Please, please, please, don't EVER switch!
There are always moments in EVERY Charley Davidson book that move me. It's to be expected and one of the things I love about this series. But I'm not going to name any because I don't want to put any spoilers out there.
Why hasn't this series been picked up by a major cable network yet? Seriously! This would make a great TV series! Hello _______ (<--- insert major cable network call letters) exec's. This one's a real gem. Don't let the opportunity to snare it slip through your fingers.
